Yitzchok called Yaakov and blessed him. He commanded him and said to him, Do not marry a woman of the daughters of Canaan.

And Yiżĥaq called Ya῾aqov, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Kena῾an.

And Isaac called to Jacob and he blessed him, and he charged him, saying: Do not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

Set out and go to Padan Aram, to the house of Besueil, your mother’s father, and marry one of the daughters of Lavan, your mother’s brother.

Arise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Betu᾽el thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from there of the daughters of Lavan thy mother’s brother.

Arise, go to Padan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother's father, and take for yourself from there a wife from the daughters of Lavan, your mother's brother.

May the Almighty, Shaddai, bless you, make you fruitful and multiply you. May you become an assembly of peoples.

And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayst be a multitude of people;

And the G d who is All-Sufficient [in His blessings] will bless you. And He will make you fruitful and will multiply you, and you will be an assembly of peoples.

May He give you the blessing of Avraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may inherit the land of your dwelling which God gave to Avraham.

and give thee the blessing of Avraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayst inherit the land in which thou art a sojourner, and which God gave to Avraham.

And He will give you [i.e., there will issue from you] the blessing of [i.e., to] Abraham [(12:2): "And I shall make you a great nation" and (26:4): "And they will bless themselves in your seed"], to you and to your seed with you, to inherit the land of your sojournings which G d gave to Abraham.

Yitzchok sent Yaakov on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Lavan, son of Besueil the Aramean, the brother of Rivkah, mother of Yaakov and Eisov.

And Yiżĥaq sent away Ya῾aqov: and he went to Paddan-aram to Lavan, son of Betu᾽el the Arammian, the brother of Rivqa, mother of Ya῾aqov and ῾Esav.

And Isaac sent Jacob, and he went to Padan-Aram, to Lavan the son of Bethuel the Aramite, the brother of Rivkah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

Eisov saw that Yitzchok blessed Yaakov, and sent him to Paddan Aram, to find a wife there; and as he blessed him, he commanded him saying, Do not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

When ῾Esav saw that Yiżĥaq had blessed Ya῾aqov, and sent him away to Paddan-aram, to take him a wife from there; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Kena῾an:

And Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and that he had sent him to Padan-Aram to take for himself from there a wife in blessing him, charging him: Do not take wife from the daughters of Canaan,

And Yaakov listened to his father and mother, and went to Paddan Aram.

and that Ya῾aqov obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan-aram,

and that Jacob had heeded his father and mother and gone to Padan-Aram.

Eisov [thus] realized that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Yitzchok, his father.

and ῾Esav saw that the daughters of Kena῾an pleased not Yiżĥaq his father;

And Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Isaac his father.

Eisov [then] went to Yishmael, and took Mochalas, the daughter of Yishmael, the son of Avraham and sister of Nevayos, in addition to his other wives, for a wife.

then ῾Esav went and took to wife besides the wives he had, Maĥalat the daughter of Yishma᾽el Avraham’s son, the sister of Nevayot.

And Esau [likewise] went to Ishmael, and he took Machlath the daughter of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, the sister of Nevayoth [(who gave her in marriage to Esau)] in addition to his (other) [wicked] wives for himself as a wife.

Yaakov left Beer Sheva and went toward Charan.

And Ya῾aqov went out from Be᾽er-sheva, and went toward Ḥaran.

And Jacob went out of Beersheva and he went [to go] to Charan.

He reached the place and spent the night there because the sun had set. He took some of the stones of that place, and arranged them around his head, and lay down [to sleep] in that place.

And he lighted on a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

And he came to the place [Mount Moriah] and he spent the night there, for the sun had set [of a sudden, G d causing it to set so that he should sleep there]. And he took of the stones of the place and set them around his head [to guard against animals], and he slept in that place.

He dreamed, and behold a ladder was set up on the earth and the top of it reached toward heaven; and behold angels of Elohim were ascending and descending on it.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

And he dreamed, and, behold, a ladder set in the earth, and its top reaching the heavens, and, behold, angels of G d ascending [to heaven] and [others] descending [from heaven to earth] upon it.

And behold Adonoy stood over him, and said, I am Adonoy, God of Avraham, your father, and God of Yitzchok. The land upon which you are lying, I will give to you and to your descendants.

And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Avraham thy father, and the God of Yiżĥaq: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

And, behold, the L rd was standing over him [to guard him]. And He said: I am the L rd, the G d of Abraham your father, and the G d of Isaac. The land on which you lie, to you shall I give it, and to your seed.

Your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth. You shall spread to the west, to the east, to the north and to the south. Through you shall be blessed all the families of the earth, and through your descendants.

and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

And your seed will be as dust of the earth, and you will be strong, west and east and north and south. And all the families of the earth will bless themselves in you and in your seed.

Behold, I am with you, and I will guard you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not forsake you until I have done that which I have spoken for you.

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places to which thou goest, and will bring thee back to this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

And, behold, I am with you, [and you need not fear Esau and Lavan], and I shall keep you, wherever you go, and I shall return you to this land; for I shall not forsake you until I have done what I have spoken [to Abraham] concerning you.

Yaakov awoke from his sleep, and said, In truth, Adonoy is in this place, and I did not know it.

And Ya῾aqov awoke out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.

And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said: In truth, the L rd is in this place, and I did not know it. [Had I known it, I would not have slept here.]

He was afraid and said, How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of Elohim, and this is the gate of heaven.

And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is no other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

And he feared and he said: How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of G d, and this is the gate of heaven [a place of prayer, whence prayers ascend to heaven].

Yaakov rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had placed at his head; and he set it as a monument, and poured oil on its top.

And Ya῾aqov rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.

And Jacob arose early in the morning and he took the stone that he had placed at his head and he set it up as a monument and he poured oil on its top.

He named that place Beis Eil, but Luz was the original name of the city.

And he called the name of that place Bet-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at first.

And he called the name of that place Beth-El ("the house of G d"), whereas Luz had been the name of the city in the beginning.

Yaakov made a vow, saying, If Elohim will be with me, and guards me on this path that I am going, and gives me bread to eat and clothing to wear;

And Ya῾aqov vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to wear,

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying: If G d will be with me, [as He promised (28:15)], and He will keep me on this way on which I go, [as He said (Ibid.)], and He will give me bread to eat and a garment to wear, [as He said (Ibid.): "For I shall not forsake you"],

And if I return in peace to my father’s house, and Adonoy will be my God;

so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God:

and I return in peace [free of sin] to my father's house, [as He said (Ibid.)], and the L rd will be a G d for me, [conferring His name upon me, there being no blemish in my seed, as He said (Ibid.): "what I have spoken concerning you," viz. (17:17): "to be a G d to you and to your seed after you"],

[Then] this stone which I have set [as] a monument will become a House of God, and of all that You give, I will surely give a tenth to You.

and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth to Thee.

then this stone which I have set up as a pillar will be the house of G d [i.e., I shall worship the L rd upon it (as he did, viz. 35:1 and 14)], and all that You give me will I tenth to You.
