Yaakov raised his eyes and saw that Eisov was coming, and with him there were four hundred men. He then divided the children among Leah, Rochel and the two handmaids.

And Ya῾aqov lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, ῾Esav came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children to Le᾽a, and to Raĥel, and to the two handmaids.

And Jacob lifted his eyes and he saw, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men; and he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two handmaids.

He placed the handmaids and their children foremost, Leah and her sons behind them, and Rochel and Yoseif in the rear.

And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Le᾽a and her children after, and Raĥel and Yosef last of all.

And he placed the handmaids and their children first, and Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph behind, [the most beloved hindmost].

He went ahead of them, and he prostrated himself to the earth seven times, until he approached his brother.

And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

And he passed before them, [placing himself first for the contingency of war], and he bowed down to the earth seven times until he came near to his brother.

Eisov ran to meet him. He hugged him and fell on his neck and kissed him. They [both] wept.

And ῾Esav ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

And Esau ran towards him and embraced him, and he fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

[Eisov] raised his eyes and saw the women and children. He said, Who are these to you? He [Yaakov] said, These are the children whom God has graciously granted your servant.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God has graciously given thy servant.

And he lifted his eyes and he saw the women and the children, and he said: "What are these to you?" And he said: The children that G d granted to your servant.

The handmaids [then] approached, they, and their children, and prostrated themselves.

Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

And the handmaids drew near, they and their children, and they prostrated themselves.

Leah and her children also approached and prostrated themselves, and finally Yoseif and Rochel approached and prostrated themselves.

And Le᾽a also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Yosef near and Raĥel, and they bowed themselves.

And Leah and her children also drew near and they prostrated themselves. And afterwards Joseph and Rachel drew near [(Joseph before Rachel, as opposed to the others, where the women went first, Joseph desiring to shield Rachel (who was very beautiful) from the gaze of Esau)], and they prostrated themselves.

He [Eisov] said, What do you have to do with that whole camp that approached me? He [Yaakov] said, It was to find favor in the eyes of my master.

And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find favour in the sight of my lord.

And he said: Who is all this camp of yours [the bearers of the gifts] that I have met? And he said: To find favor in the eyes of my lord.

Eisov said, I have plenty. My brother, let what you have remain yours.

And ῾Esav said, I have enough, my brother; keep what thou hast to thyself.

And Esau said: I have much [more than I need], my brother; let there be yours what is yours, [Esau acknowledging the blessing as Jacob's due].

Yaakov said, Please, no. If I have found favor in your eyes, take my present from my hand, because I have seen your face [and it was] like seeing the face of a God[ly being]; and you have received me favorably.

And Ya῾aqov said, By no means, if now I have found favour in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for truly I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of an angel, and thou wast pleased with me.

And Jacob said: Do not [speak thus], I pray you. If I have found favor in your eyes, take my gift from my hand. For it is fitting [that you do so], (for) I have seen your face, and [this is as grand in my eyes] as having seen the face of an angel [(the guardian angel of Esau, 32:24)]; and [it is also fitting that you accept my gift] because you have been conciliated by me.

Please accept my blessing as it was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me, for I have everything. He thus urged him and he took it.

Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

Take my [greeting-] gift, I pray you, which has been brought to you [without any exertion on your part], for the L rd has been gracious to me, and I have all [that I need]. And he pressed him, and he took it.

He [Eisov] said, Go and we will move on, and I will move on with you.

And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

And he said: Travel on and go, and I will go along with you.

He [Yaakov] said to him, My master knows that the children are delicate, and that the sheep and cattle with me are nursing. If they are driven hard for [even] one day, all the sheep will die.

And he said to him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds giving suck are a care for me: and if they should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.

And he said to him: My lord knows that the children are frail, and the flocks and herds, which are tending their young, are upon me [to move them slowly], and if they are overdriven one day, then all of the sheep will die.

Please my master, go on ahead of your servant. I will lead on gently, in my slow pace, according to the pace of the work that is before me, and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my master in Seir.

Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on slowly, according to the pace of the cattle that goes before me and the children, until I come to my lord to Se῾ir.

Let my lord, I pray you, pass before his servant, and I will lead on slowly, according to the work incumbent upon me, and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir [(Jacob intending to go only as far as Succoth, letting Esau wait in Seir if he intended him any harm.)]

Eisov said, Let me leave with you some of the people that are with me. He [Yaakov] said, What for? Let me find favor in the eyes of my master.

And ῾Esav said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What need is there? let me find favour in the sight of my lord.

And Esau said: Let me now leave with you some of the people that are with me. And he said: Why [do] this? Let me [but] find favor in the eyes of my lord, [with no other recompense].

On that day Eisov returned on his way—going to Seir.

So ῾Esav returned that day on his way to Se῾ir.

And Esau [alone] returned on that day on his way to Seir, [having been abandoned by the four hundred men who were with him.]

Yaakov traveled to Sukkos and built himself a house, and for his livestock he made shelters. He therefore named the place Sukkos.

And Ya῾aqov journeyed to Sukkot, and built him a house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Sukkot.

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and he built himself a house; and for his kine he made booths (succoth), wherefore the place was called Succoth.

Yaakov arrived safely at the city of Shechem, which is in the Land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram. He encamped before the city.

And Ya῾aqov came to Shalem, a city of Shekhem, which is in the land of Kena῾an, when he came from Paddan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.

And Jacob came complete to the city of Shchem in the land of Canaan [complete in his body (having recovered from his limp), complete in his wealth, complete in his Torah], when he came from Padan Aram, [having emerged unscathed from his encounters with Lavan and Esau], and he encamped before the city.

He bought the part of the field where he had spread his tent, from the sons of Chamor, father of Shechem, for one hundred kesitahs.

And he bought the piece of land on which he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Ḥamor, Shekhem’s father, for a hundred pieces of money.

And he bought the part of the field where he had pitched his tent from the sons of Chamor the father of Shchem for a hundred kesitah.

He erected an altar there and called it the Almighty is God of Yisrael.

And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-yisra᾽el.

And he erected an altar there, and he called it "The Almighty is the G d of Israel" (i.e., Jacob.)
