Elohim said to Yaakov, Arise, go up to Beis Eil and live there; make an altar there to the Almighty Who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Eisov.

And God said to Ya῾aqov, Arise, go up to Bet-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar to God, Who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from the face of ῾Esav thy brother.

And G d said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, [(You have been punished through your daughter for having tarried upon the way)], and abide there, and make there an altar to the G d who appeared to you when you fled from Esau your brother.

Yaakov [then] said to his household, and to everyone that was with him, Get rid of the foreign gods in your midst. Purify yourselves and change your garments.

Then Ya῾aqov said to his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and make yourselves clean, and change your garments:

And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him: Remove the strange gods that are with you [from the spoil of Shchem] and cleanse yourselves [of idolatry], and change your garments, [lest you have a vestment devoted to idolatry].

Let us arise and go up to Beis Eil. There I will make an altar to the Almighty, Who answered me in the day of my distress, and Who was with me along the way I traveled.

and let us arise, and go up to Bet-el; and I will make there an altar to God, Who answers me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way on which I went.

And let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to the G d who answered me in the day of my affliction and who was with me in the way in which I went.

They gave Yaakov all the foreign gods that were in their hands, and [also] the rings in their ears. Yaakov buried them under the oak [tree] which was near Shechem.

And they gave to Ya῾aqov all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Ya῾aqov hid them under the oak which was by Shekhem.

And they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hands and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the terebinth near Shchem.

They began their journey. The terror of Elohim was upon the cities that were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Yaakov.

And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Ya῾aqov.

And they journeyed, and the terror of G d was on the cities around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

Yaakov came to Luz, which was in the land of Canaan—that is, to Beis Eil—he and all the people that were with him.

So Ya῾aqov came to Luz, which is in the land of Kena῾an, that is, Bet-el, he and all the people that were with him.

And Jacob came to Luz in the land of Canaan (the same as Bethel), he and all the people that were with him.

There he built an altar, and he called the place Eil Beis Eil, for there Elohim was revealed to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

And he built there an altar, and called the place El-bet-el: because there God appeared to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

And he built an altar there, and he called the place "The Almighty is in Bethel"; for G d had revealed Himself to him there when he fled from his brother.

Devorah, Rivkah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Beis Eil, under Allon. He named it Allon of Weeping.

And Devora, Rivqa’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bet-el under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bakhut.

And Devorah, Rivkah's nurse, [(whom Rivkah had sent to Padan Aram to tell Jacob to return)], died. And she was buried beneath Bethel, [i.e., at the foot of the mountain on which Bethel was built], on the slope terrace; and he called its name Alon Bachuth ("the plain of weeping").

Elohim again appeared to Yaakov when he came from Padan Aram, and He blessed him.

And God appeared to Ya῾aqov again, when he came out of Paddan-aram, and blessed him.

And G d appeared to Jacob again, [a second time in this place (once in his going; the other, in his returning)] when he came from Padan Aram, and He blessed him [(the mourners' blessing)].

Elohim said to him. Your name is Yaakov. No longer will your name be Yaakov, but Yisrael will be your name; and He named him Yisrael.

And God said to him, Thy name Ya῾aqov: thy name shall not be called any more Ya῾aqov, but Yisra᾽el shall be thy name: and He called his name Yisra᾽el.

And G d said to him: Your name — Jacob — your name shall no longer be called "Jacob" [connoting deviousness], but "Yisrael" [connoting lordship] shall be your name; and He called his name Yisrael.

Elohim said to him, I am Almighty Shaddai. Be fruitful and increase, a nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come out of your loins.

And God said to him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

And He said to him: I am the G d Shaddai [It becomes Me (ani kedai) to bless, all blessings being Mine]: Be fruitful and multiply [(Benjamin had not yet been born)]. A nation [Benjamin] and a congregation of nations [Menasheh and Ephraim] shall come forth from you; and kings [Saul and Ish Bosheth (of the tribe of Benjamin)] shall issue forth from your loins.

The land that I gave to Avraham and Yitzchok, I will give to you; and to your offspring after you I will give the land.

and the land which I gave to Avraham and Yiżĥaq, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

And the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, to you will I give it, and to your seed after you will I give the land.

Elohim ascended from him at the place where He had spoken to him.

And God went up from him in the place where He talked with him.

And G d ascended from (over) him in the place where He spoke with him.

Yaakov set up a monument in the place where He had spoken to him, it was a monument of [a single] stone. He poured a libation on it, and he [also] poured oil on it.

And Ya῾aqov set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.

And Jacob set up a monument in the place where He spoke with him, a monument of stone, and he poured a libation thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

Yaakov named the place where Elohim had spoken to him; Beis Eil, [the House of the Almighty].

And Ya῾aqov called the name of the place where God had spoken with him, Bet-el.

And Jacob called the name of the place where G d spoke with him Bethel.

They journeyed on from Beis Eil, and there was yet a stretch of land before [they would reach] Ephros when Rochel began to give birth. Her labor was very difficult.

And they journeyed from Bet-el; and there was but a little way to come to Efrat: and Raĥel travailed, and she had hard labour.

And they traveled from Bethel, and there was yet a kivrah of land to come to Efrath, when Rachel gave birth, travailing in labor.

When her labor was at its most difficult stage, the midwife said to her, Do not fear, for this one will also be a son for you.

And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said to her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

And it was, as she travailed in labor, that the midwife said to her: Do not fear, for this, too [in addition to Joseph], is a son for you.

As her soul was departing, for she died, she named him Ben Oni [son of my sorrow], but his father named him Binyomin.

And it came to pass, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Binyamin.

And it was, as her soul departed in death, that she called his name Ben Oni ["son of my travail"]; and his father called him Binyamin ["son of the south," (Canaan, where he was born, being south of Aram Naharayim, whence Jacob had come)].

Rochel died and was buried on the way to Ephros, which is Beis Lechem [Bethlehem].

And Raĥel died, and was buried in the way to Efrat, which is Bet-leĥem.

And Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Efrath, which is Bethlehem.

Yaakov set up a monument on her grave. This monument is on Rochel’s grave to this very day.

And Ya῾aqov set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Raĥel’s grave to this day.

And Jacob set a monument upon her grave, the monument of Rachel's grave until this day.

Yisrael traveled on, and set up his tent beyond Migdal Eider [Tower of the herds].

And Yisra᾽el journeyed, and pitched his tent beyond the tower of ῾Eder.

And Israel journeyed and he pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder.

When Yaakov was settled in that land. Reuvein went and lay near Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Yisrael heard [about it]. The sons of Yaakov were twelve.

And it came to pass, when Yisra᾽el dwelt in that land, that Re᾽uven went and lay with Bilha his father’s concubine: and Yisra᾽el heard of it. Now the sons of Ya῾aqov were twelve:

And it was, when Israel dwelt in that land, [delaying coming to his father Isaac in Chevron], that Reuven went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Israel heard; and the sons of Jacob [after the birth of Benjamin] were twelve [the full complement of the tribes].

The sons of Leah [were]: Reuvein, Yaakov’s firstborn, Shimon, Leivi, Yehudah, Yissachar and Zevulun.

the sons of Le᾽a; Re᾽uven, Ya῾aqov’s first-born, and Shim῾on and Levi, and Yehuda, and Yissakhar and Zevulun.

The sons of Leah: the first-born of Jacob, Reuven [first-born in respect to inheritance, Divine service, and numeration (of the tribes)], Shimon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zevulun.

The sons of Rochel [were]: Yoseif and Binyomin.

The sons of Raĥel; Yosef and Binyamin.

The sons of Rachel, Joseph and Benjamin.

The sons of Bilhah, Rochel’s handmaid, [were]: Don and Naftali.

And the sons of Bilha, Raĥel’s handmaid; Dan, and Naftali.

And the sons of Bilhah, the handmaid of Rachel, Dan and Naftali.

The sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, [were]: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Yaakov that were born to him in Padan Aram.

And the sons of Zilpa, Le᾽a’s handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Ya῾aqov who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

And the sons of Zilpah, the handmaid of Leah, Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Padan Aram.

Yaakov came to Yitzchok, his father, in Mamrei at Kiryas Arba, which is Chevron where Avraham and Yitzchok lived.

And Ya῾aqov came to Yiżĥaq his father to Mamre, to the city of Arba, which is Ḥevron, where Avraham and Yiżĥaq sojourned.

And Jacob came to Isaac his father, to [the plain of] Mamre, [to the city of] Kiryath Ha'Arba, which is Chevron, where Abraham and Isaac lived.

The days of [the life of] Yitzchok were one hundred and eighty years.

And the days of Yiżĥaq were a hundred and eighty years.

And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.

Yitzchok expired and died. He was gathered to his people old and in the fullness of days. His sons, Eisov and Yaakov buried him.

And Yiżĥaq expired, and died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons ῾Esav and Ya῾aqov buried him.

And Isaac expired and he died, and he was gathered to his people, old and sated with days. And Esau and Jacob his sons buried him.
