After these events, an offense was committed by the Egyptian king’s butler and baker against their master, the king of Egypt.
And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Miżrayim, and his baker, offended their lord the king of Miżrayim.
And it was, after these things, [(G d diverting talk against Joseph to talk against the king's stewards)] that the butler of the king of Egypt and the baker [of his bread] offended their lord, the king of Egypt [(a fly was found in the wine, and a pebble in the bread)].
Pharaoh was enraged at his two officials, the chief butler and the chief baker.
And Par῾o was angry against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
And Pharaoh grew wroth with his two eunuchs, the chief butler and the chief baker.
He placed them under guard in the house of the chief executioner, in the prison, where Yoseif was imprisoned.
And he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Yosef was bound.
And he placed them in custody in the house of the head of the slaughterers, in the prison house where Joseph was incarcerated.
The chief of the slaughterers appointed Yoseif to be with them and he served them. They were under guard for a period of time.
And the captain of the guard charged Yosef with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in custody.
And the head of the slaughterers charged Joseph [to be] with them, and he ministered to them, and they were days [twelve months] in ward.
The two of them had a dream. Each of them had his dream on the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were imprisoned in the prison.
And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream on the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Miżrayim, who were bound in the prison.
And the two of them dreamed a dream, each his dream in one night, each according to the [eventual] materialization of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison house.
Yoseif came to them in the morning, and he saw them, and behold they were troubled.
And Yosef came in to them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
And Joseph came to them in the morning and he saw them, and they were distraught.
He asked Pharaoh’s officials, who were with him, under guard in his master’s house, saying, Why do you look so bad today?
And he asked Par῾o’s officers that were with him in custody in his lord’s house, saying, Why do you look so sadly today?
And he asked the eunuchs of Pharaoh who were in ward with him in his master's house: Why are your faces downcast today?
They said to him, We had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. Yoseif said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God. Tell them to me, please.
And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Yosef said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
And they said to him: We dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them: Are not interpretations unto G d? Tell it, I pray you, to me.
The butler told his dream to Yoseif. He said to him, In my dream, behold a grape vine was before me.
And the chief butler told his dream to Yosef, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, saying to him: In my dream, behold, a grapevine before me.
On the vine there were three branches, as if budding, its blossoms blooming, and its clusters ripening into grapes.
and on the vine were three tendrils: and it was as though it budded, and its blossoms shot forth; and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes:
And on the grapevine, three shoots, which seemed to bud. And its blossom sprouted; and its clusters brought forth grapes.
Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand. I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup. I then placed the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
and Par῾o’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Par῾o’s cup, and I gave the cup into Par῾o’s hand.
And Pharaoh's goblet was in my hand. And I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's goblet; and I placed the goblet on Pharaoh's hand.
Yoseif said to him, This is its interpretation: The three branches are three days.
And Yosef said to him, This is the interpretation of it: The three tendrils are three days:
And Joseph said to him: This is its interpretation: The three shoots are three days.
In another three days, Pharaoh will lift your head, and restore you to your position. You will place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, as was your previous practice when you were his butler.
within another three days shall Par῾o lift up thy head, and restore thee to thy place: and thou shalt deliver Par῾o’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
In three more days, Pharaoh will count you [with his other attendants], and he will restore you to your post, and you will place the cup of Pharaoh in his hand as at first, when you would give him drink.
But remember me when things go well with you. Please deal kindly with me, and mention me to Pharaoh, and take me out of this house.
But think of me when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, to me, and make mention of me to Par῾o, and bring me out of this house:
So that if you remember me with you when it is well with you, then do lovingkindness with me, I pray you, and mention me to Pharaoh, and take me out of this house.
I was kidnaped from the land of the Hebrews, and here I have also done nothing that they should have put me in this dungeon.
for I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
For I have been stolen from the land of the Hebrews. And here, too, I did nothing that they should put me into the pit.
The chief baker saw that he interpreted well. He said to Yoseif, I, too, dreamed. Behold there were three fancy baskets on my head.
When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Yosef, I also in my dream, behold, I had three baskets of white bread on my head.
And the chief baker saw that he had interpreted well, and he said to Joseph: I, too, in my dream; and behold, three wicker baskets on my head.
In the top basket there were various kinds of food for Pharaoh, consisting of baked goods, and the bird was eating them from the basket that was on my head.
And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Par῾o; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
And in the top basket, of all the food of Pharaoh, the work of a baker. And the birds ate them from the basket on my head.
Yoseif replied and said, This is its interpretation: The three baskets represent three days.
And Yosef answered and said, This is its interpretation: The three baskets are three days:
And Joseph answered and he said: This is its interpretation: The three baskets are three days.
In another three days, Pharaoh will lift your head from off you. He will hang you on a tree, and the bird will eat your flesh from off you.
within another three days shall Par῾o lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
In another three days, Pharaoh will lift your head from you and hang you upon a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you.
It was on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he [Pharaoh] made a feast for all his servants. He lifted the head of the chief butler, and the head of the chief baker among his servants.
And it came to pass on the third day, which was Par῾o’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
And it was on the third day, Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants. And he counted the chief butler and the chief baker in the midst of his servants.
He restored the chief butler to his position, and he presented the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
And he restored the chief butler to his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Par῾o’s hand;
And he restored the chief butler (to officiate) over his drink, and he placed the goblet on Pharaoh's hand.
The chief baker, he hung, just as Yoseif had interpreted to them.
but he hanged the chief baker: as Yosef had interpreted to them.
And the chief baker he hanged, as Joseph had interpreted for them.
וְלֹֽא־זָכַ֧ר שַֽׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִ֛ים אֶת־יוֹסֵ֖ף וַיִּשְׁכָּחֵֽהוּ׃{פ}
[However] the chief butler did not remember Yoseif, but forgot him.
Nevertheless the chief butler did not remember Yosef, but forgot him.
And the chief butler did not remember Joseph [on that day], and he forgot him [afterwards].
