When they had finished eating the food that they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, Go back and buy a little food for us.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Miżrayim, their father said to them, Go back, buy us a little food.

And it was, when they had finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, that their father said to them: Return, buy for us a little food.

Yehudah spoke to him saying, The man warned us repeatedly, saying, You had better not see my face unless your brother is with you.

And Yehuda spoke to him, saying, The man did solemnly protest to us, saying, You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.

And Judah said to him: The man warned us, saying: You shall not see my face unless your brother is with you.

If you will send our brother with us, we will go down and buy food for you.

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you send our brother with us, we shall go down and buy grain for you.

But if you will not send [him] we will not go down; for the man said to us, You had better not see my face unless your brother is with you.

but if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said to us, You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.

And if you do not send, we shall not go down. For the man said to us: You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.

Yisrael said, Why did you do such harm to me, by telling the man that you had another brother.

And Yisra᾽el said, Why did you treat me so ill, as to tell the man whether you had another brother?

And Israel said: Why did you do evil unto me to tell the man that you had another brother?

They said, The man asked us repeatedly, about ourselves and about our family, saying. Is your father still alive? Do you have a brother? We told him according to his words. Could we have known that he would say, Bring your brother down?

And they said, The man asked us particularly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have you another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we possibly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

And they said: The man inquired about us and about our families, saying: Is your father still living? Do you have a brother? And we answered him in response to these words. Could we know that he would say "Bring down your brother"?

Yehudah said to his father, Yisrael, Send the lad with me, and we will get up and go; let us live and not die, we, you and our children.

And Yehuda said to Yisra᾽el his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

And Judah said to Israel his father: Send the child with me and let us arise and go; and we shall live [(the Holy Spirit presaging Jacob's "revival" (45:27)] and we shall not die [of hunger], both we, you, and our little ones, [of a certainty, whereas Benjamin's seizure is only a possibility].

I will be security for him. You will demand him from my hand. If I do not bring him to you, and set him before you, I will have sinned to you for all time.

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not to thee, and set him before thee, then I shall have sinned to thee for ever.

I will go surety for him; you will require him at my hand. If I do not bring him to you and present him to you [alive], then I shall have sinned against you all of the days [in the world to come].

If we had not hesitated until now, we could have been there and back twice.

For if we had not lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

For had we not been delayed [by you] we could now have returned twice [with Shimon, and you would have been spared all this suffering].

Their father Yisrael said to them, If so, here, this is what you must do: Take of the best fruits of the land in your vessels, and take an offering to the man, a little balsam, a little honey, gum, labdanum, pistachios and almonds.

And their father Yisra᾽el said to them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, gum, ladanum, nuts, and almonds:

And Israel their father said to them: If so, [i.e., if I must send him with you] then do this: Take of the choicest fruits of the land in your vessels, and take a present down to the man: a little balm, and a little honey, resin and laudanum, pistachios and almonds.

Take double the money in your hands; and the money that was returned in the opening of your bags return by your own hands. Perhaps it was an oversight.

and take double money in your hand; and the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks, carry it back in your hand; perhaps it was an oversight:

And twice as much money [as you took before] take in your hands, [for the grain price might have risen], and the money returned in the mouth of your bags, return with your hands, for it might have been [forgotten by the overseer] in error.

Take your brother, get up and return to the man.

take also your brother, and arise, go again to the man:

And your brother take, and arise, return to the man.

May the Almighty, Shaddai, grant you compassion in the presence of the man, that he may release to you your other brother along with Binyamin. If I have been bereft of my children, I will be bereft.

and God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother, and Binyamin. If I be bereaved of my children, then I am bereaved.

And may the All-Sufficient grant you mercy before the man, and may he release your "other" [(the Holy Spirit presaging the "release" of Joseph)] brother [Shimon] and Benjamin; and I, [until you return], as I have been bereaved [of Joseph and Shimon], so will I be bereaved [of Benjamin].

The men took that offering, and they took double money in their hands, and [they took] Binyamin. They rose and went down to Egypt, and they stood before Yoseif.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Binyamin; and they rose up, and went down to Miżrayim, and stood before Yosef.

And the men took this gift, and double the money they took in their hand, and Benjamin, and they arose and went down to Egypt, and they stood before Joseph.

When Yoseif saw Binyamin with them he said to the one in charge of his house, Bring these men to the house. Slaughter an animal and prepare it, for these men shall dine with me at noon.

And when Yosef saw Binyamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slaughter a beast, and make it ready; for the men shall dine with me at noon.

And Joseph saw Benjamin with them, and he said to the overseer of his house: Bring these men into the house, and [see to it] to slaughter something (for a meal) and prepare it, for with me will these men dine.

The man did as Yoseif said, and the man brought the men to the house of Yoseif.

And the man did as Yosef bade; and the man brought the men into Yosef’s house.

And the man did as Joseph said, and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.

The men were afraid because they had been brought to Yoseif’s house, and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our bags previously are we being brought [here]; that he may turn on us and come down on us, and take us for slaves along with our donkeys.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Yosef’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

And the men were afraid, for they were brought into the house of Joseph, [this not being customary for those who had come to purchase grain.] And they said: It is because of the money which was returned to our sacks in the beginning that we were brought [into the house], to cast a libel upon us, and to fall upon us, and to take us as slaves, and our asses.

They approached the man, who was in charge of Yoseif’s house, and they spoke to him at the entrance to the house.

And they came near to the steward of Yosef’s house, and they spoke with him at the door of the house,

And they drew near to the man who was over Joseph's house, and they spoke to him at the entrance to the house.

They said, Please, my master, we came down the first time to buy food.

and said, O sir, we came down indeed at the first time to buy food:

And they said: We entreat you, my lord. Down did we descend, [we, who were accustomed to feed others,] in the beginning, to buy food.

When we came to the inn and opened our bags, behold each man’s money was in the opening of his bag. It was our own money in its full weight. We have brought it back in our hand.

and it came to pass, when we came to the lodging place, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight:

And it was, when we came to the inn and we opened our sacks, that, behold, each one's money was in the mouth of his sack, in (full) weight, and we have brought it back in our hand.

We have [also] brought other money in our hand to buy food. We do not know who put the money in our bags.

and we have brought it back in our hand. And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

And other money have we brought in our hand to buy grain. We do not know who put our money in our sacks.

He [the man] said, Peace be with you, do not fear. Your God, and the God of your fathers, has given you a hidden gift in your bags. Your money has come to me. He then brought Shimon out to them.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Shim῾on out to them.

And he said: Peace unto you; do not fear. Your G d [in your merit], and [if that were not sufficient], the G d of your father [in his merit], has given you a prize in your sacks. Your money has come to me. And he brought Shimon out to them.

The man brought the men into the house of Yoseif. He gave them water and they washed their feet. He had feed given to their donkeys.

And the man brought the men into Yosef’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

And the man [after having been gradually pushed to the entrance of the house] brought the men [again] into Joseph's house. And he gave (them) water, and they washed their feet, and he gave feed to their asses.

They prepared their offering [to be ready] when Yoseif came at noon, for they had heard that they would eat there.

And they made ready the present for when Yosef came at noon: for they had heard that they should eat bread there.

And they decorated the gift, [laying it out in fine vessels] until Joseph came to dine, for they heard that they would take bread [i.e., dine] there.

Yoseif came to the house, and they brought the offering that was in their hand, to him in the house. They prostrated themselves on the ground to him.

And when Yosef came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

And Joseph came to the house, and they brought him the gift in their hands into the house [from the outer hall into the parlor], and they prostrated themselves to him to the ground.

He inquired about their welfare, and said, Is your old father at peace, the one about whom you spoke? Is he still alive?

And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?

And he greeted them, and he said: Is your old father well of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?

They said, Your servant, our father is at peace. He is still alive. They bowed their heads and prostrated themselves.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is still alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

And they said: Your servant, our father, is well; he still lives. And they bowed [their heads in response to his greeting] and they prostrated themselves [to the ground].

He raised his eyes and saw his brother Binyamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your youngest brother of whom you spoke to me? He [then] said, Elohim be gracious to you my son.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Binyamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom you spoke to me? And he said, God be gracious to thee, my son.

And he lifted up his eyes and he saw Benjamin his brother, the son of his mother, and he said: Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me? And he said: "May G d grace you, my son," [it already having been said of the other tribes (33:5): "with which G d graced your servant"].

Yoseif hurried [to go out] because his compassion was aroused toward his brother, and he wanted to weep. He went into [his] room and wept there.

And Yosef made haste: for his affection was kindled towards his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

And Joseph hastened, for his mercies had become enkindled for his brother and he wished to cry, and he went into his chamber and he wept there.

He washed his face and came out. He composed himself, and said, Serve bread.

And he washed his face, and went out, and restrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

And he washed his face, and he went out and he "fortified" himself, and he said: Serve bread.

They set [a place] for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, since the Egyptians could not eat food with the Hebrews, because it was loathsome to the Egyptians.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Miżrim who did eat with them, by themselves: because the Miżrim might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination to the Miżrim.

And they served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him, by themselves. For the Egyptians could not eat with the Hebrews, for it was an abomination to the Egyptians, [the Hebrews eating sheep, which the Egyptians worshiped].

They were seated before him, the first born [the oldest] according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth. The men looked at each other in astonishment.

And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

And they sat [i.e., he sat them in order] before him, the first-born according to his seniority, and the youngest, according to his youth; and the men expressed amaze one to the other.

He had portions carried from before him to them. Binyomin’s portions was greater than all of their’s—five times as much. They drank with him and became intoxicated.

And he took and sent portions to them from before him: but Binyamin’s portion was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

And he took portions from before him to them, and the portion of Benjamin was five times that of the others, [Benjamin receiving his own portion, and, in addition, those sent him by Joseph, Asnath, Menasheh, and Ephraim], and they drank and became inebriated with him, [neither he nor they having drunk wine from the day he was sold].
