וְאֵ֗לֶּה הַבָּאִ֤ים אֶל־דָּוִיד֙ לְצִ֣יקְלַ֔ג ע֣וֹד עָצ֔וּר מִפְּנֵ֖י שָׁא֣וּל בֶּן־קִ֑ישׁ וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ בַּגִּבּוֹרִ֔ים עֹזְרֵ֖י הַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃
Now these are they who came to David to Żiqlag, while he yet kept himself shut up because of Sha᾽ul the son of Qish: and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.
And these are the ones who came to David to Tziklag, while he was still hiding from Saul the son of Kish. And they were among the stalwarts, aiding (him) in the war,
נֹ֣שְׁקֵי קֶ֗שֶׁת מַיְמִינִ֤ים וּמַשְׂמִאלִים֙ בָּאֲבָנִ֔ים וּבַחִצִּ֖ים בַּקָּ֑שֶׁת מֵאֲחֵ֥י שָׁא֖וּל מִבִּנְיָמִֽן׃
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Sha᾽ul’s brethren of Binyamin.
wielding the bow with the right hand or the left hand, with stones or arrows in the bow, of the brothers [i.e., the kin] of Saul, of Benjamin.
הָרֹ֨אשׁ אֲחִיעֶ֜זֶר וְיוֹאָ֗שׁ בְּנֵי֙ הַשְּׁמָעָ֣ה הַגִּבְעָתִ֔י (ויזואל) [וִיזִיאֵ֥ל] וָפֶ֖לֶט בְּנֵ֣י עַזְמָ֑וֶת וּבְרָכָ֕ה וְיֵה֖וּא הָעַנְּתֹתִֽי׃
The chief was Aĥi῾ezer, then Yo᾽ash, the sons of Shema῾a the Giv῾atite; and Yezi᾽el, and Met, the sons of ῾Azmavet; and Berakhah, and Yehu the ῾Antotite,
The chief, Achiezer, and Yoash the son of Hashma'ah the Giveathite, and Yeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth, and Berachah and Yehu the Anthothite.
וְיִֽשְׁמַעְיָ֧ה הַגִּבְעוֹנִ֛י גִּבּ֥וֹר בַּשְּׁלֹשִׁ֖ים וְעַל־הַשְּׁלֹשִֽׁים׃
and Yishma῾ya the Giv῾onite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty;
And Yishmayah the Giveonite, the strongest of the officers and over the officers.
וְיִרְמְיָ֤ה וְיַחֲזִיאֵל֙ וְי֣וֹחָנָ֔ן וְיוֹזָבָ֖ד הַגְּדֵרָתִֽי׃{ס}
and Yirmeya, and Yaĥazi᾽el, and Yoĥanan, and Yozavad the Gederatite,
And Yirmiyah and Yachaziel and Yochanan, and Yozavad the Gederathite,
אֶלְעוּזַ֤י וִֽירִימוֹת֙ וּבְעַלְיָ֣ה וּשְׁמַרְיָ֔הוּ וּשְׁפַטְיָ֖הוּ (החריפי) [הַחֲרוּפִֽי]׃
El῾uzay and Yerimot, and Be῾alya, and Shemaryahu, and Shefatyahu the Ḥarufite,
Eluzai and Yirimoth and Bealiah and Shmaryahu and Shefatyahu the Charufite,
אֶלְקָנָ֡ה וְ֠יִשִּׁיָּ֠הוּ וַעֲזַרְאֵ֧ל וְיוֹעֶ֛זֶר וְיָשׇׁבְעָ֖ם הַקׇּרְחִֽים׃
Elqana, and Yishshiyyahu, and ῾Azar᾽el, and Yo῾ezer, and Yoshov῾am, the Qorĥites,
Elkanah and Yishiyahu and Azarel and Yoezer and Yashavam the Korchites.
וְיוֹעֵאלָ֧ה וּזְבַדְיָ֛ה בְּנֵ֥י יְרֹחָ֖ם מִֽן־הַגְּדֽוֹר׃
and Yo῾ela, and Zevadya, the sons of Yeroĥam of Gedor.
And Yoela and Zevadyah the sons of Yerocham of Gedor.
וּמִן־הַגָּדִ֡י נִבְדְּל֣וּ אֶל־דָּוִיד֩ לַמְצַ֨ד מִדְבָּ֜רָה גִּבֹּרֵ֣י הַחַ֗יִל אַנְשֵׁ֤י צָבָא֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה עֹרְכֵ֥י צִנָּ֖ה וָרֹ֑מַח וּפְנֵ֤י אַרְיֵה֙ פְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וְכִצְבָאיִ֥ם עַל־הֶהָרִ֖ים לְמַהֵֽר׃
And of the Gadi there separated themselves to David into the stronghold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war apt for battle, who could handle shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and who were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
And from the Gadites there parted [from Saul] to David to (his) stronghold in the desert, men of valor, men of battle, wielders of shield and spear; their faces like the faces of lions, and like mountain gazelles for swiftness:
עֵ֖זֶר הָרֹ֑אשׁ עֹֽבַדְיָה֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י אֱלִיאָ֖ב הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁי׃
῾Eżer the first, ῾Ovadya the second, Eli᾽av the third,
Ezer, the chief; Ovadiah, the second; Eliav, the third;
מִשְׁמַנָּה֙ הָרְבִיעִ֔י יִרְמְיָ֖ה הַחֲמִשִֽׁי׃
Mishmanna the fourth, Yirmeya the fifth,
Mishmanah, the fourth; Yirmiah, the fifth;
עַתַּי֙ הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י אֱלִיאֵ֖ל הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃
῾Attay the sixth, Eli᾽el the seventh,
Attai, the sixth; Eliel, the seventh,
יֽוֹחָנָן֙ הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י אֶלְזָבָ֖ד הַתְּשִׁיעִֽי׃
Yoĥanan the eighth, Elzavad the ninth,
Yochanan, the eighth; Elzavad, the ninth;
יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ הָעֲשִׂירִ֔י מַכְבַּנַּ֖י עַשְׁתֵּ֥י עָשָֽׂר׃{ס}
Yirmeyahu the tenth, Makhbannay the eleventh.
Yirmiyahu, the tenth; Machbanai, the eleventh.
אֵ֥לֶּה מִבְּנֵי־גָ֖ד רָאשֵׁ֣י הַצָּבָ֑א אֶחָ֤ד לְמֵאָה֙ הַקָּטָ֔ן וְהַגָּד֖וֹל לְאָֽלֶף׃
These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: the least was over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand.
These were of the sons of Gad, the heads of the army. The least one (of them could pursue) a hundred, and the greatest, a thousand.
אֵ֣לֶּה הֵ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָבְר֤וּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן וְה֥וּא מְמַלֵּ֖א עַל־כׇּל־[גְּדוֹתָ֑יו] (גדיתיו) וַיַּבְרִ֙יחוּ֙ אֶת־כׇּל־הָ֣עֲמָקִ֔ים לַמִּזְרָ֖ח וְלַֽמַּעֲרָֽב׃{פ}
These are they who went over the Yarden in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all those of the valleys, both towards the east, and towards the west.
These are the ones who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it was overflowing all its banks, and they drove out all the valley (-dwellers) to the east and to the west.
וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ מִן־בְּנֵ֤י בִנְיָמִן֙ וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה עַד־לַמְצָ֖ד לְדָוִֽיד׃
And there came of the children of Binyamin and Yehuda to the stronghold, to David.
And there came, of the sons of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold, to David.
וַיֵּצֵ֣א דָוִיד֮ לִפְנֵיהֶם֒ וַיַּ֙עַן֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם אִם־לְשָׁל֞וֹם בָּאתֶ֤ם אֵלַי֙ לְעׇזְרֵ֔נִי יִֽהְיֶה־לִּ֧י עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם לֵבָ֖ב לְיָ֑חַד וְאִֽם־לְרַמּוֹתַ֣נִי לְצָרַ֗י בְּלֹ֤א חָמָס֙ בְּכַפַּ֔י יֵ֛רֶא אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵ֖ינוּ וְיוֹכַֽח׃{ס}
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, If you are come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you: but if you are come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, then let the God of our fathers see, and rebuke you.
And David went out before them and said to them: If for peace you have come to me, to aid me, may my heart be upon you as one (heart); but if to deceive me (and hand me over) to my foes, with no wrong in my hands, may the G-d of our fathers see (it) and exact payment.
וְר֣וּחַ לָֽבְשָׁ֗ה אֶת־עֲמָשַׂי֮ רֹ֣אשׁ (השלושים) [הַשָּׁלִישִׁים֒] לְךָ֤ דָוִיד֙ וְעִמְּךָ֣ בֶן־יִשַׁ֔י שָׁל֨וֹם׀שָׁל֜וֹם לְךָ֗ וְשָׁלוֹם֙ לְעֹ֣זְרֶ֔ךָ כִּ֥י עֲזָֽרְךָ֖ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וַיְקַבְּלֵ֣ם דָּוִ֔יד וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם בְּרָאשֵׁ֥י הַגְּדֽוּד׃{פ}
Then the spirit came upon ῾Amasay, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Yishay: peace, peace be to thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helps thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
And a spirit invested Amassai, the chief of the officers (and he said:) [We are] for you, David, and with you, son of Yishai: Peace, peace unto you and peace to your helpers, for the L-rd has helped you! And David received them and placed them at the heads of the battalions.
וּמִֽמְּנַשֶּׁ֞ה נָפְל֣וּ עַל־דָּוִ֗יד בְּבֹא֨וֹ עִם־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֧ים עַל־שָׁא֛וּל לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה וְלֹ֣א עֲזָרֻ֑ם כִּ֣י בְעֵצָ֗ה שִׁלְּחֻ֜הוּ סַרְנֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בְּרָאשֵׁ֕ינוּ יִפּ֖וֹל אֶל־אֲדֹנָ֥יו שָׁאֽוּל׃
And some of Menashshe deserted to David, when he came with the Pelishtim against Sha᾽ul to battle: but they did not help them: for the lords of the Pelishtim took counsel and sent him away, saying, He will desert to his master Sha᾽ul to the jeopardy of our heads.
And from Menasheh there went over (men) to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul for war (But he did not help them [the Philistines], for in counsel the chiefs of the Philistines sent him away, saying: "With our heads [as a bribe], he will go over to his master, Saul" [who will thereby pardon him]).
בְּלֶכְתּ֣וֹ אֶל־צִֽיקְלַ֗ג נָפְל֣וּ עָלָ֣יו׀מִֽמְּנַשֶּׁ֡ה עַ֠דְנַ֠ח וְיוֹזָבָ֤ד וִידִֽיעֲאֵל֙ וּמִיכָאֵ֣ל וְיוֹזָבָ֔ד וֶאֱלִיה֖וּא וְצִלְּתָ֑י רָאשֵׁ֥י הָאֲלָפִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִמְנַשֶּֽׁה׃
As he went to Żiqlag, there deserted to him of Menashshe, ῾Adnah, and Yozavad, and Yedi῾a᾽el, and Mikha᾽el, and Yozavad, and Elihu, and Żilletay, captains of the thousands that were of Menashshe.
When he went (back) to Tziklag, there went over to him of Menasheh: Adnach and Yozavad and Yedia'el and Michael and Yozavad and Elihu and Tzilathai, chiefs of the thousands of Menasheh.
וְהֵ֗מָּה עָזְר֤וּ עִם־דָּוִיד֙ עַֽל־הַגְּד֔וּד כִּֽי־גִבּ֥וֹרֵי חַ֖יִל כֻּלָּ֑ם וַיִּהְי֥וּ שָׂרִ֖ים בַּצָּבָֽא׃
And they helped David against the troop of raiders: for they were all mighty men at arms, and they were captains in the host.
And they aided David against the band [of Amalekites (viz. I Samuel 30:17)], for they were all men of valor, and they were officers in the army.
כִּ֚י לְעֶת־י֣וֹם בְּי֔וֹם יָבֹ֥אוּ עַל־דָּוִ֖יד לְעׇזְר֑וֹ עַד־לְמַחֲנֶ֥ה גָד֖וֹל כְּמַחֲנֵ֥ה אֱלֹהִֽים׃{פ}
For at that time day by day men came over to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.
And these are the numbers of the heads of the vanguards of the army (who) came to David to Chevron to transfer Saul's kingdom to him according to the (word of) the L rd.
וְ֠אֵ֠לֶּה מִסְפְּרֵ֞י רָאשֵׁ֤י הֶחָלוּץ֙ לַצָּבָ֔א בָּ֥אוּ עַל־דָּוִ֖יד חֶבְר֑וֹנָה לְהָסֵ֞ב מַלְכ֥וּת שָׁא֛וּל אֵלָ֖יו כְּפִ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃{ס}
And these are the numbers of the bands of the armed troops who came to David to Ḥevron, to turn the kingdom of Sha᾽ul over to him, according to the word of the Lord.
And these are the numbers of the heads of the vanguards of the army (who) came to David to Chevron to transfer Saul's kingdom to him according to the (word of) the L-rd.
בְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה נֹשְׂאֵ֥י צִנָּ֖ה וָרֹ֑מַח שֵׁ֧שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֛ים וּשְׁמוֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת חֲלוּצֵ֥י צָבָֽא׃{ס}
The children of Yehuda who bore shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred, armed troops.
The sons of Judah, bearers of shield and spear, six thousand and eight hundred warriors.
מִן־בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֗וֹן גִּבּ֤וֹרֵֽי חַ֙יִל֙ לַצָּבָ֔א שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִ֖ים וּמֵאָֽה׃{ס}
Of the children of Shim῾on mighty men at arms for the war, seven thousand one hundred.
Of the sons of Shimon, warriors for the host, seven thousand and one hundred.
מִן־בְּנֵי֙ הַלֵּוִ֔י אַרְבַּ֥עַת אֲלָפִ֖ים וְשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת׃{ס}
Of the children of Levi four thousand six hundred.
Of the sons of the Levites, four thousand and six hundred.
וִיהוֹיָדָ֖ע הַנָּגִ֣יד לְאַהֲרֹ֑ן וְעִמּ֕וֹ שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת׃{ס}
And Yehoyada was the leader of the house of Aharon, and with him three thousand seven hundred;
And Yehoyadah [(the father of Benayahu)], the prince of Aaron, and with him, three thousand and seven hundred.
וְצָד֥וֹק נַ֖עַר גִּבּ֣וֹר חָ֑יִל וּבֵית־אָבִ֥יו שָׂרִ֖ים עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם׃{ס}
and Żadoq, a young mighty man at arms, and of his father’s home, twenty two captains.
And Tzaddok, a youth, a man of valor, and his father's house, officers, twenty-two.
וּמִן־בְּנֵ֧י בִנְיָמִ֛ן אֲחֵ֥י שָׁא֖וּל שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֑ים וְעַד־הֵ֙נָּה֙ מַרְבִּיתָ֔ם שֹׁמְרִ֕ים מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת בֵּ֥ית שָׁאֽוּל׃{ס}
And of the children of Binyamin, the kindred of Sha᾽ul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Sha᾽ul.
And of the sons of Benjamin, the brothers [i.e., the kin] of Saul, three thousand, most of them, heretofore, keepers of the house of Saul.
וּמִן־בְּנֵ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם עֶשְׂרִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף וּשְׁמוֹנֶ֣ה מֵא֑וֹת גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חַ֔יִל אַנְשֵׁ֥י שֵׁמ֖וֹת לְבֵ֥ית אֲבוֹתָֽם׃{ס}
And of the children of Efrayim were twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men at arms, famous throughout the houses of their fathers.
And of the sons of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred warriors, men of repute in the house of their fathers.
וּמֵֽחֲצִי֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר אָ֑לֶף אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִקְּבוּ֙ בְּשֵׁמ֔וֹת לָב֖וֹא לְהַמְלִ֥יךְ אֶת־דָּוִֽיד׃{ס}
And of the half tribe of Menashshe eighteen thousand, who were expressly named, to come and make David king.
And of the half-tribe of Menasheh, eighteen thousand, designated by name, to come to crown David.
וּמִבְּנֵ֣י יִשָּׂשכָ֗ר יוֹדְעֵ֤י בִינָה֙ לַֽעִתִּ֔ים לָדַ֖עַת מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל רָאשֵׁיהֶ֣ם מָאתַ֔יִם וְכׇל־אֲחֵיהֶ֖ם עַל־פִּיהֶֽם׃{ס}
And of the children of Yissakhar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Yisra᾽el ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
And of the sons of Issachar, knowers of understanding for the [intercalation of the] times, to know what Israel should do [(vis-à-vis festival designation)], their heads, two hundred, and all their brothers (abiding) by their word.
מִזְּבֻל֞וּן יוֹצְאֵ֣י צָבָ֗א עֹרְכֵ֧י מִלְחָמָ֛ה בְּכׇל־כְּלֵ֥י מִלְחָמָ֖ה חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים אָ֑לֶף וְלַעֲדֹ֖ר בְּלֹא־לֵ֥ב וָלֵֽב׃{ס}
Of Zevulun, such as went out to battle, expert in war, with all weapons of war, fifty thousand; and who ranged themselves with undivided loyalty.
From Zevulun, going out in the host, and waging war with all kinds of weapons, fifty-thousand, of undivided heart.
וּמִנַּפְתָּלִ֖י שָׂרִ֣ים אָ֑לֶף וְעִמָּהֶם֙ בְּצִנָּ֣ה וַחֲנִ֔ית שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃{ס}
And of Naftali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty seven thousand.
And from Naftali, a thousand officers, and with them, (men of) shield and spear, thirty-seven thousand.
וּמִן־הַדָּנִי֙ עֹרְכֵ֣י מִלְחָמָ֔ה עֶשְׂרִֽים־וּשְׁמוֹנָ֥ה אֶ֖לֶף וְשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת׃{ס}
And of the Danites expert in war twenty eight thousand six hundred.
And from the Danites, wagers of war, twenty-eight thousand and six hundred.
וּמֵאָשֵׁ֗ר יוֹצְאֵ֥י צָבָ֛א לַעֲרֹ֥ךְ מִלְחָמָ֖ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים אָֽלֶף׃{ס}
And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, forty thousand.
And from Asher, going out in the host to wage war, forty thousand.
וּמֵעֵ֣בֶר לַ֠יַּרְדֵּ֠ן מִן־הָראוּבֵנִ֨י וְהַגָּדִ֜י וַחֲצִ֣י**׀** שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה בְּכֹל֙ כְּלֵי֙ צְבָ֣א מִלְחָמָ֔ה מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים אָֽלֶף׃{ס}
And on the other side of the Yarden, of the Re᾽uveni, and the Gadi, and of the half tribe of Menashshe, with all manner of weapons of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.
And from across the Jordan, from the Reuvenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Menasheh, with all weapons of the host of war, one hundred and twenty thousand.
כׇּל־אֵ֜לֶּה אַנְשֵׁ֣י מִלְחָמָה֮ עֹדְרֵ֣י מַעֲרָכָה֒ בְּלֵבָ֤ב שָׁלֵם֙ בָּ֣אוּ חֶבְר֔וֹנָה לְהַמְלִ֥יךְ אֶת־דָּוִ֖יד עַל־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ֠גַ֠ם כׇּל־שֵׁרִ֧ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לֵ֥ב אֶחָ֖ד לְהַמְלִ֥יךְ אֶת־דָּוִֽיד׃
All these men of war, ranged in battle order, came with a perfect heart to Ḥevron, to make David king over all Yisra᾽el: and all the rest also of Yisra᾽el were of one heart to make David king.
All these, men of war, in battle array, with whole heart, came to Chevron to make David king over all of Israel. And all the rest of Israel were of one heart to crown David.
וַיִּֽהְיוּ־שָׁ֤ם עִם־דָּוִיד֙ יָמִ֣ים שְׁלוֹשָׁ֔ה אֹכְלִ֖ים וְשׁוֹתִ֑ים כִּי־הֵכִ֥ינוּ לָהֶ֖ם אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃
And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.
And they were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, their kinsmen having prepared (a repast) for them.
וְגַ֣ם הַקְּרֽוֹבִים־אֲ֠לֵיהֶ֠ם עַד־יִשָּׂשכָ֨ר וּזְבֻל֜וּן וְנַפְתָּלִ֗י מְבִיאִ֣ים לֶ֡חֶם בַּחֲמוֹרִ֣ים וּבַגְּמַלִּ֣ים וּבַפְּרָדִ֣ים׀וּֽבַבָּקָ֡ר מַאֲכָ֡ל קֶ֠מַח דְּבֵלִ֨ים וְצִמּוּקִ֧ים וְיַיִן־וְשֶׁ֛מֶן וּבָקָ֥ר וְצֹ֖אן לָרֹ֑ב כִּ֥י שִׂמְחָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃{פ}
Also their neighbours as far as Yissakhar and Zevulun and Naftali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and provisions of meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Yisra᾽el.
And also those in proximity to them, until (the territory of) Issachar and Zevulun and Naftali, brought provisions on asses, camels, mules, and cattle — food of flour, dried figs, and raisins and wine and oil, and cattle and sheep in abundance, for there was joy in Israel.
