שם שרץ בא על התנועה, ויקראו בשם זה הבעלי חיים הפחותים שאין מובדלים מן הצומח רק בתנועתם.
The noun שרץ (swarming thing) refers to the movement, and the inferior living creatures which are called by this name are only distinguished from plants through their movement.
אולם הפעל "שוֹרֵץ" בא על ההולדה היתירה (שמיני סימן פ, וסימן קסה), ולכן הוסיף "השרץ השורץ על הארץ" – רוצה לומר הפרה ורבה שם (שמיני ס' קט). מה שאין כן במה שכתב "השרץ הרומש על הארץ", היינו אף על פי שאינו פרה ורבה (שמיני ס' קסט)
However, the verb שוֹרֵץ (swarm) refers to excessive procreation, and thus it addsהשרץ השורץ על הארץ (swarming thing that swarms upon the earth)⁶⁸⁹ – it means to say that it fertilizes and increases there. On the contrary, when it is written השרץ הרומש על הארץ (swarming thing that moves upon the earth)⁶⁹⁰, it means even if it does not fertilize and increase.
