ויש וי"ו חסרה (צו סימן מב)

Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021

And there is an instance in the Scripture in which the prefix ו is missing.

Leviticus 10:8-9 says,וידבר יהוה אל אהרן לאמר יין ושכר אל תשת אתה ובניך אתך בבאכם אל אהל מועד ולא תמתו חקת עולם לדרתיכם(And the LORD spoke to Aaron, saying: Drink no wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, that you die not; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generation), using the wordsיין ושכר אל תשתfor “Drink no wine nor strong drink”. The prefixוclarifies that they should not drink wine as one drinks a strong drink, by way of intoxication.

Leviticus 13:10 says,וראה הכהן והנה שאת לבנה בעור והיא הפכה שער לבן ומחית בשר חי בשאת(And the priest shall look, and, behold, if there be a white rising in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising), where it uses the languageהפכה שער לבןfor “turned the hair white” and the prefix ו comes on ומחית בשר חי (and there be quick raw flesh in the rising). In this case, the prefixוcompares – just as “turned the hair white” implies enough space for at least two hairs, so too “quick raw flesh in the rising” implies enough space for at least two hairs.

Leviticus 6:13 says,זה קרבן אהרן ובניו אשר יקריבו ליהוה ביום המשח אתו עשירת האפה סלת מנחה תמיד מחציתה בבקר ומחציתה בערב (This is the offering of Aaron and of his sons, which they shall offer to the LORD in the day when he is anointed: the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering perpetually, half of it in the morning, and half thereof in the evening), using the words מנחה תמיד for “a meal-offering perpetually”. However, it is interpreted asומנחה תמיד; the prefixוis missing.
