The ordinal number [ראשון שני שלישי] (first, second, third) always comes after the noun phrase that it modifies. And when it is written פר שני בן בקר (another young bullock)¹⁵⁷, it is peculiar; it should have been written פר בן בקר שני. And the sages of blessed memory interpret this to mean that it will be in its second year, because through the grammar, it is proper to say שְנִיִי (second), like a third or a fourth. And they rely on the fact that it comes out of the noun שנה, like the declensions כֶלִי חֵצִי.

And nevertheless, the custom is that the number comes immediately before the noun that it modifies like ועשרון אחד סולת. And when it is written ועשרון סולת אחד (and one tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mingled with oil)¹⁵⁸, there is a homiletical interpretation.
