Dever – Pestilence: God struck the livestock because the Egyptians forced the people of Israel to care for their livestock.²²³ Yet if God struck down the livestock during this plague, how is it that livestock were struck down again during the plague of hail?²²⁴ During the plague of pestilence only those livestock the Israelites cared for were affected; the rest of the livestock in the fields were struck down during the plague of hail.
