אלו האכילנו את־המן ולא נתן לנו את־השבת, דינו “If God had fed us manna and had not given us the the Sabbath, dayyenu.” We would have become pure like angels (through consuming manna). But God wanted to give us the Sabbath because through it we would attain an additional soul (neshamah yeteirah), a precious gift from God’s storehouse. Through it we would become great like the ministering angels. For the neshamah, the soul is higher than them and we would be its partner, as is known.
