אמר החכם מי שאינו מתגאה בנפשו הגביהה. והמתגאה השפילה:

- THE sage was wont to observe, The diffident will be encouraged, the proud humbled.
ואמר מי שבטח בעצתו תועה. ומי שסמך בשכלו נכשל. ומי שמתגאה על בני אדם שפל:

המתגאה בנפשו רואה בה מה שהוא גדול ממנה בקלות דעתו. ומראה שמחתו לזה. והוא והנקרא גאוה:
