And Adonoy spoke to Moshe in the Sinai desert, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first [day] of the second month, in the second year of their exodus from the land of Egypt, saying:

AND the Lord spoke to Moshe in the wilderness of Sinay, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Miżrayim, saying,

And the L-rd said to Moses in the desert of Sinai in the tent of meeting on the first day of the second month (Iyyar) in the second year after their going out from the land of Egypt, saying:

Take a head count of the entire congregation of Bnei Yisroel according to their families to the house of their fathers counting the names of all males individually.

Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Yisra᾽el, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, by the number of names, every male by their polls;

Take the count of the entire congregation of the children of Israel by their families [to know the number of each tribe], by their fathers' house [(one whose father is of one tribe and his mother of a different tribe being reckoned by the tribe of his father)], according to the number of names, every male by their heads [a beka (half a shekel) for a head (Exodus 38:26)].

From twenty years old and above, all those eligible for the army of Israel, you shall count them according to their divisions, you and Aharon.

from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Yisra᾽el: thou and Aharon shall number them by their hosts.

From twenty years and up, all who go to war in Israel, [twenty being the minimum age], number them by their hosts, you and Aaron.

Along with you, there shall be one man for each tribe, each man shall be the head of his fathers’ house.

And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

And with you shall be [when you count them] one man of every tribe, each the chief of his fathers' house.

These are the names of the men who shall stand along with you. For [the tribe of] Reuven, Elitzur the son of Shdeiur.

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Re᾽uven; Eliżur the son of Shede᾽ur.

And these are the names of the men who will stand with you: Of Reuven — Elitzur ben Shedeur.

For [the tribe of] Shimon, Shlumiel the son of Tzurishadai.

Of Shim῾on; Shelumi᾽el the son of Żurishadday.

Of Shimon — Shelumiel ben Tzurishadai.

For [the tribe of] Yehudah, Nachshon the son of Aminadav.

Of Yehuda; Naĥshon the son of ῾Amminadav.

Of Yehudah — Nachshon ben Aminadav.

For [the tribe of] Yissachar, Nesanel the son of Tzu’ar.

Of Yissakhar; Netan᾽el the son of Żu῾ar.

Of Yissachar — Nethanel ben Tzuar.

For [the tribe of] Zevulun, Eliav the son of Cheilon.

Of Zevulun; Eli᾽av the son of Ḥelon.

Of Zevulun — Eliyav ben Cheilon.

For the sons of Yoseif, for [the tribe of] Ephraim, Elishamah the son of Amihud. For [the tribe of] Menasheh, Gamliel the son of Pedahtzur.

Of the children of Yosef: of Efrayim; Elishama the son of ῾Ammihud: of Menashshe, Gamli᾽el the son of Pedażur.

Of the sons of Joseph: Of Ephraim — Elishama ben Amihud; of Menasheh — Gamliel ben Pedatzur.

For [the tribe of] Binyamin, Avidan the son of Gid’oni.

Of Binyamin; Avidan the son of Gid῾oni.

Of Binyamin — Avidan ben Gidoni.

For [the tribe of] Don, Achiezer the son of Amishadai.

Of Dan; Aĥi῾ezer the son of ῾Ammishadday.

Of Dan — Achiezer ben Amishadai.

For [the tribe of] Asher, Pagi’el the son of Ochran.

Of Asher; Pag῾i᾽el the son of ῾Okhran.

Of Asher — Pagiel ben Achran.

For [the tribe of] Gad, Elyasaf the son of De’uel.

Of Gad; Elyasaf the son of De῾u᾽el,

Of Gad — Elyasaf ben De'uel.

For [the tribe of] Naftali, Achira the son of Einan.

Of Naftali, Aĥira the son of ῾Enan.

Of Naftali — Achira ben Einan.

These are the ones called from the congregation, the leaders of their fathers’ tribes; they are the heads of the thousands of Yisroel.

These were the men of mark in the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Yisra᾽el.

These are the "called" of the congregation, [so called because they were called upon for every matter of importance affecting the congregation], the chiefs of the tribes of their fathers. The heads of the thousands of Israel (were) they.

Moshe and Aharon took these men who were designated by name.

And Moshe and Aharon took these men who were pointed out by their names:

And Moses and Aaron took these men that were designated [here to Moses] by name.

They gathered together the entire congregation on the first [day] of the second month and they were registered by family ancestry according to the house of their fathers. according to the number of names each man of twenty years and above; individually.

and they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls.

And they assembled the entire congregation on the first (day) of the second month, and they confirmed their birth (claims) [with deeds and witnesses] after their families, by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, (every male) from twenty years and up, by their heads [see 1].

Just as Adonoy commanded Moshe. He counted them in the Sinai desert.

As the Lord commanded Moshe, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinay.

As the L-rd commanded Moses — and he numbered them in the desert of Sinai.

These were the sons of Reuven, Yisroel’s firstborn, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers. according to the number of individual names every male of twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

And the children of Re᾽uven, Yisra᾽el’s oldest son, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

And the children of Reuven, the first-born of Israel, were — their births, by their families, by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, by their heads, every male from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Reuven, is forty-six thousand five hundred.

those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Re᾽uven, were forty six thousand, five hundred.

Their number of the tribe of Reuven — forty-six thousand and five hundred.

For the sons of Shimon, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers, his numbers according to the number of individual names every male of twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Shim῾on, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Shimon, their births by their families by their fathers' house, their number according to the number of names, by their heads, every male from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Shimon, is fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Shim῾on, were fifty nine thousand, three hundred.

Their number of the tribe of Shimon — fifty-nine thousand and three hundred.

For the sons of Gad, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers in a counting of names. From twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Gad, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Gad, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Gad, is forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty five thousand, six hundred and fifty.

Their number of the tribe of Gad — forty-five thousand and six hundred and fifty.

For the sons of Yehudah, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers, in a counting of names. From twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Yehuda, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Yehudah, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Yehudah, is seventy-four thousand six hundred.

those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Yehuda, were seventy four thousand, six hundred.

For the sons of Yissachar, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers, in a counting of names. From twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Yissakhar, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Their numbers, for the tribe of Yissachar is fifty-four thousand four hundred.

Of the children of Zevulun, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Zevulun, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Zevulun, is fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

Of the children of Menasheh, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Menashe is thirty-two thousand two hundred.

Their numbers for the tribe of Binyamin, is thirty-five thousand four hundred.

Their numbers, for the tribe of Don, is sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

For the sons of Asher, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers, in a counting of names from twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Asher, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Asher, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Asher is forty-one thousand five hundred.

The sons of Naftali, their births according to their families according to the house of their fathers, in a counting of names from twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army.

Of the children of Naftali, their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

The children of Naftali, their births by their families by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, from twenty years and up, all who go to war —

Their numbers, for the tribe of Naftali is fifty-three thousand four hundred.

those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naftali, were fifty three thousand, four hundred.

Their number of the tribe of Naftali — fifty-three thousand and four hundred.

These are the numbers which were counted [by] Moshe, Aharon and the leaders of Israel, [being] twelve men, each man was the head of his fathers’ house.

These are those that were numbered, whom Moshe and Aharon numbered, and the princes of Yisra᾽el, being twelve men: each one represented the house of his fathers.

These are the numbered, who were numbered by Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of Israel, twelve men; one man for his fathers' house were they.

All the numbers of Bnei Yisroel according to the house of their fathers, from twenty years and above, all who go forth into the army of Israel,

So were all those that were numbered of the children of Yisra᾽el, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Yisra᾽el;

And they were — all that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers' house, from twenty years and up, all who go to war in Israel —

All their numbers were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

all they that were numbered were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.

All those numbered were six hundred and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

The Levites, according to the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them.

But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

But the Levites, after the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.

Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying;

For the Lord had spoken to Moshe, saying,

And the L-rd said to Moses, saying:

However, the tribe of Levi you shall not count and you shall not take their head count among Bnei Yisroel.

Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, nor take the sum of them among the children of Yisra᾽el:

Only the tribe of Levi do not number, and do not take their count in the midst of the children of Israel [The "King's legion" merits an independent count.]

You shall appoint the Levites to oversee the Mishkon of Testimony and over all of its utensils and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the Mishkon and all its utensils, and they shall administer it, and they shall camp around the Mishkon.

but thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister to it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

And you, appoint the Levites over the mishkan of the Testimony, and over all of its vessels, and over all that pertains to it. They shall bear the mishkan and all of its vessels, and they shall minister to it, and roundabout the mishkan shall they camp.

When the Mishkon is to be moved the Levites shall take it down, and when the Mishkon is to rest [in one place] the Levites shall erect it, and the stranger who approaches, shall die.

And when the tabernacle sets forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

And when the mishkan travels, the Levites shall dismantle it [and carry it to the place where the cloud (preceding them) comes to rest], and when the mishkan rests, the Levites shall raise it. And the stranger that draws near [to this service of the Levites] shall be put to death [at the hands of Heaven].

Bnei Yisroel shall camp, each man at his own camp and each man at his own banner, according to their divisions.

And the children of Yisra᾽el shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

And the children of Israel shall encamp, every man in his own camp and every man by his standard, [as per the arrangement of the standards (below), three tribes to each standard], according to their hosts.

The Levites shall camp around the Mishkon of the Testimony, so that there will not be anger upon the congregation of Bnei Yisroel, and the Levites shall be careful to preserve the Mishkon of Testimony.

But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Yisra᾽el: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.

And the Levites shall encamp around the mishkan of the Testimony and there shall be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel [if you follow these directives; but if not — if strangers appropriate this service, then there will be wrath (as in the instance of Korach, 17:11)], and the Levites shall keep the charge of the mishkan of the Testimony.

Bnei Yisroel did according to all that Adonoy commanded Moshe; they did it [exactly].

And the children of Yisra᾽el did according to all that the Lord commanded Moshe, so they did.

And the children of Israel did according to all that the L-rd commanded Moses; thus did they do.
