To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Keep not silent, O God of my praise;
For the conductor, of David, a psalm. G d of my [(Israel's)] praises; do not be silent.
for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
For the mouth of the evil one [(Yishmael)] and the mouth of [the man of] deceit have opened themselves against me. They have spoken with me with lying tongue.
For they have compassed me about with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
They have surrounded me with words of hatred and have warred against me for naught.
In return for my love they are my accusers; whilst I have nothing but prayer.
For my loving [You], they have hated me; yet I [always invoke] prayer [for them].
And they have repaid me evil for good, and hatred for my love, saying:
They have set upon me evil in place of good, and hatred in place of my love.
Set a wicked man over him: and let an adversary stand at his right hand.
Appoint an evil one against him [(Esav)], and let an adversary stand at his right hand.
When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer be turned into sin.
In his judgment let him emerge as an evil one, and let his prayer be reckoned a sin.
Let his days be few; and let another take his possessions.
Let his days be few. Let his greatness revert to another.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his sons be orphans, and his wife, a widow.
Let his children be vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let his sons wander and beg, and let others ask and make inquiry as to their [coming to] ruin.
Let the creditor seize everything that he has, and let strangers spoil his labour.
Let the creditor hound [him] for all he owns, and let strangers plunder his toil.
Let there be none to extend kindness to him: nor let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
Let no one extend kindness to him; let none be gracious to his orphans.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let his [his son's] end be cut off; in the next generation, let their names be erased.
May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let the sin against his fathers be remembered [against him] to the L rd, and let the sin against his mother not be erased.
Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Let them [these sins] ever be before the L rd, and let their remembrance [(that of Esav and his chiefs)] be cut off from the land.
Because he remembered not to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy man, and the brokenhearted to their death.
Because he did not remember to do lovingkindness, and he pursued the poor one [Israel] and the destitute and the broken of heart to the death.
For he loved cursing, and it came to him: and he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.
He loved cursing [(the L rd, whom he denied)] — let it [(a curse)] come to him; he did not desire blessing — let it be far from him.
And he clothed himself with cursing like his garment, and it came into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.
Let him be clothed in cursing as [he is in] his cloak; let it come as water into his innards, and as oil into his bones.
Let it be to him as the garment which he puts on, and for the girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
Let it be as an enwrapping garment [around him], and let it buckle him always as a belt.
This is what my adversaries seek to obtain from the Lord, and they who speak evil against my soul.
This is [the recompense for] the acts of my haters from the L rd, and [that of] those who speak evil against my soul.
But do Thou for me, O God the Lord, for Thy name’s sake: because Thy steadfast love is good, deliver Thou me.
And You, O G d, my L rd, do with me [good] for Your name's sake; in the goodness of Your lovingkindness, save me.
For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
For I am poor and destitute, and my heart is empty within me.
I am gone like the shadow at evening: I am shaken off like the locust.
I have been made to wander as the casting of a shadow [towards evening]; I have been shunted away as the locust swarm.
My knees totter through fasting; and my flesh fails of fatness.
My knees failed with fasting; my flesh withered of fat.
I have become a taunt to them: when they see me they shake their heads.
And I am become an [object of] shame to them; when they see me, they nod their heads [in scorn].
Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to Thy steadfast love:
Help me, O L rd, my G d. Save me in Your lovingkindness.
that they may know that this is Thy hand; that Thou, Lord, hast done it.
Let them know that this is Your hand that You, O L rd, have done it.
Let them curse, but bless Thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let Thy servant rejoice.
Let them curse, and You bless. They will arise and be shamed, and Your servant will rejoice.
Let my adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a robe.
My haters will be clothed in disgrace; their shame will enwrap them as a cloak.
I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.
I will thank the L rd greatly with my mouth; in the midst of a multitude I will praise Him.
כִּֽי־יַ֭עֲמֹד לִימִ֣ין אֶבְי֑וֹן לְ֝הוֹשִׁ֗יעַ מִשֹּׁפְטֵ֥י נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃{פ}
For he stands at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who would condemn him to death.
For He stands at the right of the poor one, to save him from the condemners of his soul.
