A Song, A Psalm for the sons of Qoraĥ.
A song, a psalm, of the sons of Korach.
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
The L rd is great [i.e., His greatness will be proclaimed] and greatly praised in the city of our G d [(when it will be rebuilt)], the mountain of His sanctuary.
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth: mount Żiyyon, the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Beauteous of prospect, the joy of all the earth — Mount Zion [("beauteous of prospect")], the northern side [of the altar ("the joy of all the earth") — the sin-offerings and guilt-offerings (slaughtered on that side) resulting in the joy of atonement and in good for all the earth] — the city of the great King.
God is known in her palaces for a fortress.
[When the L rd reposes there, they will say:] G d is in its citadels; [He is] renowned as [its] Stronghold.
For, lo, the kings were assembled, they came on together.
For, behold, the kings have assembled [(for the war of Gog and Magog)] and passed over together [to make war against Jerusalem].
As soon as they saw, they were astounded; they were affrighted; they rushed away.
They saw [the L rd going forth in battle against them] — and they were astounded. They were confounded and bewildered.
Fear took hold of them there, and pain, like a woman in travail.
A trembling seized them there, pangs as of a woman in childbirth.
Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.
With the east wind [(the wind of "retribution")], you break the ships of Tarshish [(belonging to Edom)].
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: may God establish it for ever. (Sela.)
Just as we heard [(these consolations from our prophets)], thus did we see, in the city of the L rd of hosts, in the city of our G d. The L rd shall establish it forever, Selah.
We have thought of Thy steadfast love, O God, in the midst of Thy temple.
[(The prophet resumes His prayer to the L rd:)] We hoped, O G d, for Your kindness [to see Your salvation] in the midst of Your sanctuary.
According to Thy name, O God, so is Thy praise to the ends of the earth: Thy right hand is full of righteousness.
As Your name [is great] O G d, so is Your praise [great] over the ends of the earth. Righteousness fills Your right hand.
Let mount Żiyyon rejoice, let the daughters of Yehuda be glad, because of Thy judgments.
Mount Zion will rejoice, the [(other)] daughters [i.e., cities] of Judah will regale for the sake of Your judgments [(of retribution against the nations)].
Walk about Żiyyon, and go round about her: count her towers.
Go around Zion, [You who build her], and encompass it. Count its towers [i.e., determine how many towers she requires].
Mark well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that you may tell it to the generation following.
Set your hearts to [the restoration of] her ramparts; raise up her citadels, so that you can tell [of her grandeur and beauty] to the next generation.
כִּ֤י זֶ֨ה**׀** אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֱ֭לֹהֵינוּ עוֹלָ֣ם וָעֶ֑ד ה֖וּא יְנַהֲגֵ֣נוּ עַל־מֽוּת׃{פ}
For such is God, our God, for ever and ever: he will be our guide to the death.
For this G d [(who has wrought all this for us)] is our G d. He will lead us as [one leads] a young child.
