ויתחתן לאחאב. התחתן עמו, שלקח בת אחאב לבנו יהורם (מ"ב ח,יח):
And [Jehoshaphat] married le-Aḥ’av (=to Ahab). He married into Ahab’s family, taking the daughter of Ahab for his son Jehoram (2 Kgs 8:18).
מי יפתה את אחאב. זה הענין פרשנו בספר מלכים (מ"א כב,כ-כג):
Who will entice Ahab. We have explained this matter in [the commentary on] the book of Kings (1 Kgs 22:20–23).
ויסיתם אלהים ממנו. הסיתם ונתן בלבם שיסורו ממנו, כמו שאמ' בספר מלכים "ויסירם":
Vaysitem God from [Jehoshaphat]. He swayed [the Arameans] (hesitem), putting it in their minds to turn away (she-yasuru) from him—much as the text says vaysirem (=and he diverted them) in the book of Kings.
היה מעמיד במרכבה. פי': היה מתחזק ומעמיד עצמו כדי שלא יהיו סבורים ארם כי הוכה; ועוד, שלא לשבר לב ישראל. ובספר מלכים: "מָעֳמָד" (מ"א כב,לה):
Was holding upright (ma‘amid) in the chariot. This means: [Ahab] was mustering the strength to hold himself upright so that the Arameans would not think that he was wounded, and also so as not to undermine the resolve of the Israelites. In the book of Kings [the text says] mo‘omad (=being held upright; 1 Kgs 22:35).
