החוטא לחבירו ומת החבר קודם שבקש ממנו מחילה מביא י' בני אדם ומעמידן על קברו ואומר בפניהם חטאתי לה' אלהי ישראל ולפלוני זה שעשיתי כך וכך אם היה חייב לו ממון מחזירו ליורשיו לא היה יודע מי יורשיו יניחנו בב"ד ויתודה:
If someone has sinned against his neighbor and the neighbor dies before extending forgiveness, he (then) brings ten people, places them on his grave and says before them, “I have sinned before God, the God of Israel and against this individual to whom I have done such and such,” and if he owes him money he returns it to his heirs, if he does not know who the heirs are, let him leave it with the court and confess.¹
