6. Concerning this, the questioner will further ask: “How can we say that He is one, while the number ten are united in Him? For in this way we preserve the truth of our hearts, but fail to preserve the declaration of our mouths.

Answer. I have already made known to you that the One is the foundation of the many, and that no power comes into being within them except from Him. He surpasses them, and each of them surpasses the one beneath it, while the power of each is present in the other. If so, the first [sefirah] is the power of them all, and the power of them all is nothing but the power of the first. Although the first is the power of them all, for nothing exists in the particular except what is contained in the whole, the analogy for this is fire, flame, sparks, and colors: they are one root, even though they differ from one another through the differentiation of their parts.
