(דברים כא ו) וְכֹל זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִיא, וַאֲפִלּוּ הֵם מֵאָה. לְפִי שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ לְהַלָּן שְׁלֹשָׁה וַחֲמִשָּׁה, יָכוֹל אַף כָּאן כֵּן? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר וְכֹל זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִיא, וַאֲפִלּוּ הֵם מֵאָה.

- “Then, all the elders of that city” (Dt. 21:6)— even if there are a hundred! Since we have taught elsewhere:³⁶⁹): Three elders or five elders— Is it possible to say that The same applies here? The Teaching states: “All the elders of that city” (Dt .21:6)— Even if there are a hundred!

יִרְחֲצוּ אֶת יְדֵיהֶם עַל הָעֶגְלָה הָעֲרוּפָה בַּנָּחַל, עַל מְקוֹם עֲרִיפָתָהּ שֶׁל עֶגְלָה. יָכוֹל יַעֲלוּ מִן הַנַּחַל וְיֹאמְרוּ? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר: בַּנָּחַל, שֶׁתְּהֵא עֲנִיָּתָם וַאֲמִירָתָם בַּנַּחַל.

- “They shall wash their hands over the beheaded calf, in the river-bed” (Dt. 21:6)— over the place of the calf’s beheading. Is it possible to say that they should ascend from the river-bed before reciting [the formula of denial]? The Teaching states: “In the river-bed” (Dt. 21:6)— let all their recitals and responses come from the river-bed.
