When I proclaim the LORD’s name, give glory to our God.

O LORD, open my lips, so that my mouth may declare Your praise.

PATRIARCHS

▾בָּרוּךְ Blessed are You, LORD our God and God of our fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac and God of Jacob; the great, mighty and awesome God, God Most High, who bestows acts of loving-kindness and creates all, who remembers the loving-kindness of the fathers and will bring a Redeemer to their children’s children for the sake of His name, in love. King, Helper, Savior, Shield:

אַף־בְּרִי Af-bri is the name of the angel of rain, Who overcasts [the sky], forms clouds and precipitates them, making them rain Water to crown the valley with green. May rain not be withheld from us because of our unpaid debts. May the merit of the faithful Patriarchs protect their offspring who pray for rain.

▾Blessed are You, LORD, Shield of Abraham.

אַתָּה You are eternally mighty, LORD. You give life to the dead and have great power to save.

יַטְרִֽיחַ May He make him apportion due portions of rain, Moistening the earth with drops pure as opal. In the Torah You symbolized Your might by water. Its drops refresh those in whom was breathed the breath of life, Reviving those who make mention of the powers of rain.

Our God and God of our fathers.

זְכוֹר Remember the Patriarch [Abraham] who followed You like water. You blessed him like a tree planted beside streams of water. You shielded him and rescued him from fire and water. You sought him because he sowed [righteousness] by all waters. Cong: For his sake do not withhold water.

זְכוֹר Remember [Isaac] whose birth was foretold when [Abraham said] “Let there be brought some water.” You told his father to offer him, to shed his blood like water. [Isaac], too, cared and poured out his soul like water. When he dug, he discovered wells of water. Cong: For his righteousness’ sake grant abundant water.

זְכוֹר Remember [Jacob] who carried his staff and crossed the Jordan’s water. With steadfast heart he rolled away the stone from the well of water. He wrestled with an angel composed of fire and water, So You promised to be with him through fire and water. Cong: For his sake do not withhold water.

זְכוֹר Remember [Moses] who in a reed basket was drawn out of the water. They said: “He drew water for us, and gave the flock water.” When Your treasured people thirsted for water, He struck the rock and out gushed water. Cong: For his righteousness’ sake grant abundant water.

זְכוֹר Remember [Aaron], chief officer of the Temple, who immersed five times in water. He went and washed his hands in the sanctifying water. He called out and sprinkled blood, purifying the people as if with water. He kept apart from the people who were as unruly as water. Cong: For his sake do not withhold water.

זְכוֹר Remember the twelve tribes You brought through the divided water, For whom You sweetened the bitterness of the water. For Your sake their descendants’ blood was spilled like water. Turn to us, for troubles engulf our souls like water. Cong: For their righteousness’ sake grant abundant water.

For You, LORD our God, make the wind blow and the rain fall.

For blessing, and not for curse. Cong: Amen. For life, and not for death. Cong: Amen. For plenty, and not for scarcity. Cong: Amen.
