Mind of a Monotheist | 4 | Vayera | Avraham - Antimartyr, by Rav David Debow

Is the Akeida really about martyrdom? A close reading reveals the Monotheist's life-affirming faith.

In this episode we set the Monotheist apart from other religions, philosophies, and ideologies. He is alone in his life-affirming, this-world commitments. Two clear criteria set him apart: the disavowal of celibacy and martyrdom, broadly understood. This leads to a close reading of the Akeida to show how it functions as an antimartyrdom polemic.
