Compassion can arouse great love.

Compassion that the G-Dly spark came down to this dark world & especially the darkness created by our sins.

Yaakov who personified compassion brought down compassion of אצילות to take us out of exile & unite us with G-D on the level of נשיקין with G-D through Torah & חיבוק through Mitzvot & higher level of נשיקין through meditation in Torah.

Through compassion you can reach אהבה רבה as it says Yaakov redeemed Abraham.
