יש הבדל בשם דם בין אם בא בסמיכות או בכינוי אל החי [כמו: "דם האדם", "דם נקי", "דמך על ראשך"] שאז יכוין על הדם שהנפש תלויה בו. אבל כשאומר דם סתם – יכוין על כל דם שיהיה ואפילו דם התמצית ודם העור והבשר. (ויקרא סימן ריד)

There are different ways to use the noun דם (blood): If it comes in construct state or with a pronoun referring to the living (like דם האדם, דם נקי, דמך על ראשך) then it means the blood that the life depends upon. But when it says דם alone, it means all blood that will be and even blood that is extracted and blood of the skin and the flesh.
