והנה מלת "או" מורה על החלוקה ומלת "יחדיו" מיוחד אל החיבור.
And the word או (or) teaches about the disjunction, while the word יחדיו (together) teaches about the conjunction.
והוי"ו בא פעמים לחבר ופעמים לחלק. ופליגי ר' יאשיה ור' יונתן ב"מכה אביו ואמו". ובארתי הדבר באורך שבציוי פשוטה כולי עלמא לא פליגי שהוי"ו בא לחבר, ובאזהרה פשוטה כולי עלמא מודים שהוי"ו בא לחלק. ולא פליגי אלא במאמר תנאיי כמו "מכה אביו ואמו" (קדושים סימן קא)
And the letterו sometimes means “and” and sometimes means “or”. And Rabbi Isaiah and Rabbi Yonasan disagree about מכה אביו ואמו (And he that smites his father, or his mother shall surely be put to death)⁷⁶⁵. And I explained the matter at length that with a simple imperative, everyone agrees that theו means “and”, and with a simple warning, everyone agrees that theו means “or”. And they only disagree about conditional statements like מכה אביו ואמו.
