Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying;
And the Lord spoke to Moshe saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“Say to Elazar the son of Aharon, the kohein and have him lift up the firepans from the inferno, and you, scatter the fire yonder, for, they were sanctified;
Speak to El῾azar the son of Aharon the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they have become holy.
Tell Elazar the son of Aaron the Cohein to lift the fire-pans from the conflagration and to scatter the fire (i.e., the coals) [in the fire-pans to the ground], for they the [fire-pans] have been consecrated [as ministering vessels (and may not be used for profane purposes)] —
[These] firepans of these sinners [who paid] with their souls, and make them into hammered sheets to overlay the altar, for they were brought in offering before Adonoy and they were sanctified; and they shall be for a sign for Bnei Yisroel.
As for the censers of these sinners against their own lives, let them make them into beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they have become holy: and they shall be a sign to the children of Yisra᾽el.
The fire-pans of these who have forfeited their lives [by defying the L-rd] — and they shall beat them into plates (as a) covering for the [copper] altar, for they presented them before the L-rd and they were consecrated; and they shall be a sign [i.e., a "memorial"] for the children of Israel, [viz.: "These (plates) came from those who contested the priesthood and were burned."]
Elazar the kohein, took the copper firepans, those that the fire victims brought and hammered them into a covering for the altar,
And El῾azar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they made them into beaten plates for a covering of the altar:
And Elazar the Cohein took the copper fire-pans which the burned ones had presented, and he beat them into plating for the altar.
זִכָּר֞וֹן לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לְ֠מַ֠עַן אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא־יִקְרַ֜ב אִ֣ישׁ זָ֗ר אֲ֠שֶׁ֠ר לֹ֣א מִזֶּ֤רַע אַהֲרֹן֙ ה֔וּא לְהַקְטִ֥יר קְטֹ֖רֶת לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה וְלֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֤ה כְקֹ֙רַח֙ וְכַ֣עֲדָת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁ֖ה לֽוֹ׃{פ}
to be a reminder for Bnei Yisroel so that a commoner shall never offer, one who is not a descendant of Aharon, to burn incense before Adonoy; so as not to be like Korach and his congregation; as Adonoy spoke to him, through Moshe.
to be a memorial to the children of Yisra᾽el, that no stranger, who is not of the seed of Aharon, come near to offer incense before the Lord: that he be not like Qoraĥ and his company: as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moshe.
A sign for the children of Israel, so that a stranger, who is not of the seed of Aaron, not draw near to smoke incense before the L-rd, so that he not be like Korach and his congregation, as the L-rd spoke to Moses about him [Aaron, viz., that he and his sons are to be Cohanim].
They complained—the entire congregation of Bnei Yisroel—on the next day against Moshe and Aharon, saying: “You have killed the people of Adonoy”
But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Yisra᾽el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon, saying, You have killed the people of the Lord.
And the entire congregation of the children of Israel railed on the morrow against Moses and against Aaron, saying: You have put to death the people of the L-rd.
When the congregation assembled against Moshe and Aharon, they turned to the Tent of Meeting and behold! The cloud covered it, and the Glory of Adonoy appeared.
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moshe and against Aharon, that they looked toward the Tent of Meeting: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.
And it was, when the congregation gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they turned to the tent of meeting, and, behold, the cloud covered it and the glory of the L-rd appeared.
וַיָּבֹ֤א מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאַהֲרֹ֔ן אֶל־פְּנֵ֖י אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃{ס}
Moshe and Aharon came to the front of the Tent of Meeting.
And Moshe and Aharon came before the Tent of Meeting.
And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting.
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“Remove yourselves from this congregation and I shall annihalate them in an instant,” and they fell upon their faces.
Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
Remove yourselves from the midst of this congregation and I will consume them this instant; and they fell on their faces.
Moshe said to Aharon: “Take the firepan and put fire from atop the altar on it and place incense on it, and go quickly to the congregation and atone for them, for anger has come forth from before Adonoy; the plague has commenced.”
And Moshe said to Aharon. Take a censer, and put fire in it from off the altar, and put on incense, and take it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them: for wrath is gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.
And Moses said to Aaron: Take the fire-pan and place upon it fire from the altar, and put incense (upon it) and take (it) quickly to the congregation and atone for them [(This secret was given to him by the angel of death when he ascended to heaven — that the incense aborts the plague)], for the wrath has gone forth from the L-rd; the plague has begun.
Aharon took, just as Moshe spoke, and he ran to the middle of the assembly and behold! The plague had commenced among the people. He put on incense and he atoned for the people.
And Aharon took as Moshe commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague had begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made atonement for the people.
And Aaron took (it) as Moses had commanded and he ran to the midst of the congregation, and, behold, the plague had begun in the people; and he put on the incense and he atoned for the people.
He stood between the dead and between the living and the plague was halted.
And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
And he stood between the dead and the living and the plague was aborted.
The dead in the plague totaled fourteen thousand seven hundred, excluding those who died due to Korach’s rebellion.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand, seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Qoraĥ.
And those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, aside from those who died in the affair of Korach.
וַיָּ֤שׇׁב אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶל־פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד וְהַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה נֶעֱצָֽרָה׃{פ}
Aharon returned to Moshe to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and the plague was halted.
And Aharon returned to Moshe to the door of the Tent of Meeting: and the plague was stayed.
And Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the tent of meeting, and the plague was halted.
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
And the Lord spoke to Moshe, saying,
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying:
“Speak to Bnei Yisroel and take from among them a staff, a staff for each father’s [tribal] house, from all the leaders according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs; and you shall write each man’s name on his staff.
Speak to the children of Yisra᾽el, and take of every one of them a rod, one for each father’s house, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers: twelve rods: write every man’s name upon his rod.
Speak to the children of Israel and take from them a staff for a father's house. From all their chiefs, according to the house of their fathers, twelve staffs; the name of each write on his staff.
You shall write the name of Aharon on the staff of Levi, for, [there is] one staff for the head of their fathers’ house.
And thou shalt write Aharon’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.
And the name of Aaron write on the staff of Levi, for there is one staff for the head of their fathers' house [Though I have divided them into two families, the priestly and the levitical, they remain one tribe.]
You shall leave them inside the Tent of Meeting before the testimony where there I meet you.
And thou shalt lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the Testimony, where I will meet with you.
And place them in the tent of meeting before the Testimony, where I am appointed for you.
It shall be that the man whom I choose, his staff shall blossom; and I will abate from Myself the complaints of Bnei Yisroel that they complain against you.”
And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Yisra᾽el, whereby they murmur against you.
And it shall be, the man that I choose, his staff will blossom, and I shall cause to recede from Me the plaints of the children of Israel which they vent against you.
Moshe spoke to Bnei Yisroel and all the leaders gave to him a staff for each leader; a staff for each leader, according to their fathers’ house, twelve staffs, and the staff of Aharon [was] among their staffs.
And Moshe spoke to the children of Yisra᾽el, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses: twelve rods: and the rod of Aharon was among their rods.
And Moses spoke to the children of Israel, and all of their chiefs gave to him a staff for one chief, a staff for one chief, for the house of their fathers, twelve staffs, and the staff of Aaron in the midst of their staffs, [so that they not attribute its blossoming to its having been placed on the side of the Shechinah.]
Moshe placed the staffs before Adonoy in the Tent of the Testimony.
And Moshe laid up the rods before the Lord in the tent of the Testimony.
And Moses placed the staffs before the L-rd in the tent of the Testimony.
It was on the next day, Moshe came inside the Tent of the Testimony, and behold! The staff of Aharon blossomed for the house of Levi, a blossom came forth, and bloomed buds and bore ripe almonds.
And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moshe went into the tent of the Testimony: and, behold, the rod of Aharon for the house of Levi had sprouted, and brought forth buds, and blossomed, and yielded almonds.
And it was on the morrow that Moses came into the tent of the Testimony, and, behold, the staff of Aaron of the house of Levi had sprouted, and had blossomed, and had brought forth a [fruit] bud, and had gendered almonds.
וַיֹּצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֤ה אֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּטֹּת֙ מִלִּפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶֽל־כׇּל־בְּנֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּרְא֥וּ וַיִּקְח֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ מַטֵּֽהוּ׃{פ}
Moshe then brought out all the staffs from before Adonoy to all Bnei Yisroel, and each (man) saw, and retrieved his staff.
And Moshe brought out all the rods from before the Lord to all the children of Yisra᾽el: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
And Moses brought forth all the staffs from before the L-rd to all the children of Israel; and they saw, and each took his staff.
Adonoy said to Moshe, “Return the staff of Aharon before the (Ark of) Testimony to be preserved as a symbol to the rebellious people, so that their complaint will end and they not die.”
And the Lord said to Moshe, Put Aharon’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept for a token against rebels; that there may be an end of their murmurings against me, that they die not.
And the L-rd said to Moses: Return Aaron's staff before the Testimony for keeping as a sign against the sons of rebellion [that I have chosen Aaron to be priest, so that they not again contest the priesthood], and their caviling cease from Me and they not die.
וַיַּ֖עַשׂ מֹשֶׁ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֹת֖וֹ כֵּ֥ן עָשָֽׂה׃{פ}
Moshe did (this), as Adonoy commanded him—so he did.
And Moshe did so: as the Lord commanded him, so he did.
And Moses did as the L-rd commanded him; thus did he do.
Bnei Yisroel said [the following] to Moshe: “Behold, we perish, we are lost—we are all lost.
And the children of Yisra᾽el spoke to Moshe, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
And the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying: Behold, we shall perish; we shall go lost; we shall all go lost!
כֹּ֣ל הַקָּרֵ֧ב׀הַקָּרֵ֛ב אֶל־מִשְׁכַּ֥ן יְהֹוָ֖ה יָמ֑וּת הַאִ֥ם תַּ֖מְנוּ לִגְוֺֽעַ׃{ס}
Anyone approaching, who comes close to the Mishkon of Adonoy will die—have we been consigned to die?”
Everyone that comes at all near the tabernacle of the Lord dies; shall we totally perish?
Whoever draws near [(We are permitted to enter the court of the tent of meeting)], who draws near [(more than his neighbor and inadvertently enters the tent of meeting,)] to the mishkan of the L-rd, will die. Have we been abandoned to death?
