When Yisra᾽el went out of Miżrayim, the house of Ya῾aqov from a people of strange language;

When Israel went out of Egypt; the house of Jacob from people of a strange tongue,

Yehuda became his sanctuary, and Yisra᾽el his dominion.

Judah was [taken by the L rd as] His holy one [for his heroic role at the Red Sea (viz. Psalms 68:28)]. Israel, [as the people of] His reign.

The sea saw it, and fled: the Yarden was driven back.

The sea beheld, and it fled; the Jordan was turned backwards.

The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like young sheep.

The mountains skipped like rams; the hills like the young of sheep.

What ails thee, O thou sea, that thou fleest? thou Yarden, that thou art driven back?

What ails you, O sea, that you flee; O Jordan, that you are turned backwards?

You mountains, that you skip like rams; and you little hills, like lambs?

O mountains that you skip like rams, and hills, like the young of sheep?

Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Ya῾aqov;

[We do so] from before the L rd, the Founder of the earth, from before the G d of Jacob.

who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Who turns the rock to a pool of water; the flint, to a spring of water.
