Leader: I shall sing and make music for my God as long as I live, / the God who has guided me ever since my creation.

Cong: To this very day You have held on to my hand; / You have given me life and kindness.

Leader: Blessed be the Lord, blessed be His glorious name, / for He has bestowed wondrous kindness upon His servant.

Cong: With what shall I come before the God on high; / how shall I bow to this everlasting God?

Leader: Even if the mountains were the array of wood on the altar, / all the wood of Lebanon spread upon it;

Cong: And all cattle and beasts slaughtered, / their pieces laid above the wood-pile;

Leader: Even if the altar corners were to wallow / in their blood, as the waters cover the sea,

Cong: And the lush, rich offerings were as abundant as the sand, / mingled with myriads of rivers of oil; semolina

Leader: And frankincense and fragrant spices were to be offered as a memorial-offering / of incense, along with the choicest of balsams;

Cong: And even if the lamps of the Menora / were to shine as bright as the two great lights in the sky,

Leader: And the showbread were to be as high as the majestic mountains, / set out upon tables in the inner sanctuary,

Cong: With wine like the rain from heaven, / and intoxicating wine for libations as springs of water;

Leader: And even if all men were priests / and Levites who sang like a joyful angelic songbird,

Cong: And all the trees of Eden, and trees of all forests / were fashioned into lyres and harps for the Levite singers,

Leader: And all of God’s angels joined in with the sound of their shouts, / along with the stars from their courses above –

Cong: All of the trees of Lebanon and all animals / could never suffice as kindling and burnt offerings for Him.

Leader: Behold, none of these would suffice to worship Him; / nothing is adequate to approach the God of glory.

Cong: For You are greatly honored, our King, / and how shall we bow before our Master?

Leader: Indeed, none can glorify You, / no living creature, including myself, Your servant.

Cong: And I am a despicable man, forsaken by men, / spurned in my own eyes and lowly among men.

Leader: And Your servant has nothing with which to honor You, / to repay You for Your kindnesses;

Cong: For You have heaped good upon me, / and Your kindness to me has been great.

Leader: And many a debt have I incurred toward You, / for You have done good with me;

Cong: Yet You do not ask me my debt to You, / all Your goodness to me is due to Your benevolence alone. for

Leader: I have not sufficiently worshiped You for all of this good; / I have not repaid You even one part of ten thousand.

Cong: If I tried to count the good You have done, / I would not know how to learn its number.

Leader: And what shall I give back to You? All is Yours! / The heavens are Yours as well as the earth.

Cong: The seas and all that is within are in Your hands; / all receive nourishment from Your hand.

Leader: And we are Your nation, Your flock, / who desire to perform Your will!

Cong: And how shall we worship when we lack strength, / and our holy Temple has been consumed by fire?

Leader: And how shall we worship now that peace-offerings and meal-offerings are no more – / for we have not yet come to that restful place [Jerusalem].

Cong: And there is no water to wash away impurity; / and we are situated in an impure land.

Leader: Your words render me joyous; / I have now come before You to follow Your utterances.

Cong: For it is said: Not concerning your peace-offerings / and burnt-offerings will I rebuke you.

Leader: Concerning peace-offerings and burnt-offerings, / I did not command your ancestors.

Cong: What have I asked and what have I required / of you? – only to fear Me!

Leader: To worship Me with joy and a glad heart – / “For heeding Me is better than a choice sacrifice.”

Cong: And a broken heart is better than a pure meal-offering; / a broken spirit is equivalent to a sacrifice to God.

Leader: You do not desire peace-offerings and meal-offerings, / You did not request sin-offerings or burnt-offerings.

Cong: I shall build an altar out of my shattered heart, / and I shall break and humble my spirit within me.

Leader: I shall bring low my haughty heart and lower my haughty eyes; / I shall rend my heart for the sake of my Lord.

Cong: The fragments of my spirit shall be Your offerings; / may they rise up to You upon Your altar and be willingly accepted.

Leader: And I shall loudly sound out Your praise, / and recount of all Your wonders.

Cong: For that which my soul has known – I shall compose words, / I shall speak profusely of Your mighty deeds.

Leader: And what shall I formulate when I do not know what to say? / Indeed, is there anything I can say?

Cong: For His greatness , / His insight . is unsearchable innumerable

Leader: He is wise of heart – who is like Him? / We shall never fully perceive the greatness of His strength.

Cong: The doer of great works; chief of awesome acts – / You are great, and You work wonders.

Leader: Innumerable, – / their number shall never be known, for none shall succeed to discover their scope. unsearchable

Cong: What eye can witness having seen You; / what mouth might tell of You?

Leader: No living being has seen You, nor has their heart known You; / what praise shall suffice for You?

Cong: Even Your servants have not seen You, / nor have the wise of heart discovered You.

Leader: You alone know Your praise; / no one but You knows Your true strength.

Cong: And no one but You knows / which praises befit Your glory.

Leader: Therefore, may You be blessed as befits You, / according to Your holiness, glory and greatness.

Cong: And so all shall bless You with their fullest strength, / according to the knowledge You have granted them.

Leader: The heavens shall laud Your wonders, / and the sounds of water shall exalt You.

Cong: And all the earth’s inhabitants shall shout out to You, / all earthly kings shall laud You.

Leader: No one greater than You can be told of; / Your wonders are far too numerous to recount.

Cong: His knowledge is perfect; the knowing God is One; / He seeks out all hearts as one.

Leader: Who is like You, O Teacher of knowledge? / You create the speech of all lips.

Cong: Your thoughts are deep and lofty, / Your years of existence shall never end.

Leader: No one taught You Your wisdom, / and no one granted You Your insight.

Cong: You did not receive Your reign from others, / and did not inherit Your dominion.

Leader: Forever Yours alone / and never shared by others, shall be Your majestic glory.

Cong: And You will never grant to foreign gods / Your glory, nor to idols or strange deities.

Leader: All glory and honor is from You; / Your honor shall never belong to strange gods.

Cong: You shall testify to Your own Oneness, / and so shall Your Torah and Your servants.

Leader: Our God, to Your Oneness / You are true witness, and we are Your servants.

Cong: No god preceded You, / and in Your creation, no stranger collaborated with You.

Leader: You did not receive counsel and were not instructed / when, in Your own great insight, You invented creatures.

Cong: From within the depths of Your thoughts / and heart, came all Your actions.

Leader: some of Your ways; / we have recognized You through some of Your deeds. Indeed, we are familiar

Cong: For You are the God who created all / alone, yet nothing was diminished from Your greatness.

Leader: You were not pressed to perform Your work; / neither did You require the help of others.

Cong: For You existed before all, / and even then You needed nothing.

Leader: For out of love for Your servants, / You created all for Your glory.

Cong: And no God but You exists; / none is like You and there is none but You.

Leader: No other has been heard of from that time onwards; none has risen or existed nor been seen.

Cong: And after You, there will be no other god – / the God of Israel is both first and last!

Leader: Blessed are You, unique and singular One; / The Lord is One and His name is One.

Cong: For who can perform works, / deeds and mighty miracles such as Yours?

Leader: No creation exists but Yours, / and no work exists but Yours alone.

Cong: You do whatever You desire with regard to all, / for You are exalted above all.

Leader: There is none like You and none other than You, / for there is no God but You.

Cong: You, God, work wonders; / nothing is beyond You.

Leader: Who is like You, awesome in praises? / You alone, God, perform great miracles.

Cong: There are no miracles like Your miracles, / no wonders like Your wonders.

Leader: There is no insight like Your insight, / no greatness like Your greatness.

Cong: For Your thoughts are very deep; / the ways of Your conduct are lofty.

Leader: There is no majesty like Your majesty, / no humility like Your humility.

Cong: There is no holiness like Your holiness, / no nearness like Your nearness.

Leader: There is no righteousness like Your righteousness, / no salvation like Your salvation.

Cong: There is no strong arm like Your strong arm, / no sound as loud as Your mighty thunder.

Leader: There is no mercy like Your mercy, / no compassion like Your compassion.

Cong: There is no divinity like Your divinity; / none can do wonders as can Your glorious name.

Leader: For in Your name the angels make haste, / to work wonders for Your oppressed people when You remember them.

Cong: Enchanters and sorcerers do not press You; / no spell or enchantment can defeat You.

Leader: Even all shrewd men could never defeat You, / nor magicians and sorcerers.

Cong: You leave wise men dumbfounded; / crafty men and magicians could never overpower You.

Leader: None could reverse Your plans / or void the counsel of Your concealed decrees.

Cong: You shall never be swayed from Your will; / none can cause You to hasten or delay it.

Leader: Your counsel shall void the counsel of all advisrs; / Your might weakens the hearts of brave men.

Cong: You alone command all; Your dread straightens the paths of men; / no one gives You orders or commands You.

Leader: You are the hope of all – but You do not hope; / You satiate all souls who await You.

Cong: And all creatures and all that is theirs – / Your honor cannot be fathomed.

Leader: Your thoughts are not like their thoughts, / for there is no creator but You alone.

Cong: Our God is extraordinary and cannot be compared; / no one can grasp our Master’s loftiness.

Leader: He is the most hidden of all hidden, concealed / of all concealed, and of all enshrouded.

Cong: More veiled than anything veiled; more deeply encrypted than anything encrypted; more powerful than any powerful being.

Leader: Exalted above all that is exalted; more mysterious / than any mysterious thing; His name is everlasting.

Cong: Higher than the highest being, loftier / than all lofty and all unknowable.

Leader: Concealed, deeper than the deepest; / His knowledge shall evade the heart of he who attempts to know Him.

Cong: For intellect, knowledge and wisdom / lack the power to attribute anything to Him.

Leader: They are incapable of grasping His quality and quantity; / they cannot find any semblance of Him.

Cong: Nor can they attribute to Him chance or temporality; change or subordinacy, / attachment to another or dependence, physical light or darkness.

Leader: They cannot attach to Him an appearance or color; nor any natural thing that is six [like the movements] or seven [like the physical quantities].

Cong: Therefore, all human thought is confused, / all calculations disturbed.

Leader: All thoughts and reflections / are powerless to apply measurements to Him.

Cong: And cannot assess or apply limits to Him, / nor describe Him or expose Him.

Leader: With all our intellect we have searched for Him, / trying with our knowledge to discover what He is.

Cong: We have not discovered His nature nor have we become familiar with Him, / but we have recognized Him from His deeds.

Leader: For He alone is the sole Creator, / a living, omnipotent Being, uniquely wise.

Cong: For He existed before all, / therefore He is called the ancient God.

Leader: He created all from nothingness; / we know that He is omnipotent.

Cong: All His works are performed with wisdom; / we know they are a result of insight.

Leader: When He renews creation each and every day, / we know that He is the God of the universe.

Cong: Since He preceded all, / we know that He is everlasting.

Leader: One must not have doubts about our Creator, / neither in our hearts nor in our words.

Cong: We shall not attribute physicality to Him; / we shall not ascribe to Him subordinacy or form.

Leader: We shall not consider Him to be in a sitting or standing position, / nor a natural species or defined power or limited being.

Cong: He is not like any of the visible beings who were granted intellect / and knowledge in the ten statements of creation.

Leader: Nor can He be defined within the seven physical quantities or six movements, / nor the three decreed characteristics, nor the times or measurements.

Cong: For the Creator has none of these, / since He created them all as one.

Leader: All will shrivel and pass; / they shall perish and come to an end.

Cong: But You shall rise up and waste them away, / for You are forever alive and shall endure.

Leader: You alone are the Creator of all things; / Your works cannot be like their Maker.

Cong: All lands cannot contain You, / nor can the heavens sustain You.

Leader: The living waters then whirled about / in fear of You, O living God.

Cong: The earth quaked and the waters took flight; / even the sky dropped water from above.

Leader: You alone spread out the heavens, / extended the earth above the waters.

Cong: You created all You desired alone; / You did not need a helpmate.

Leader: Provider, no one can provide for You; / all is from You, and from Your own hand.

Cong: Your strength and knowledge now is the same as it was then; / Your glory is always with You.

Leader: And You were never tired or weary, / for You did not toil in Your work.

Cong: For all creatures were formed by Your speech; / all You desired was made by Your word.

Leader: And You did not delay nor hasten a thing; / You created everything beautifully in its proper time.

Cong: Without anything You renewed all; / You formed everything without tools.

Leader: You established everything without foundations; / You suspended everything with the will of Your spirit.

Cong: Your arms carry the entire universe / from beginning to end; they never tire.

Leader: In Your eyes, nothing is too difficult; / anything You desire, Your spirit . does

Cong: You are unlike Your creation; / You cannot be compared to any kind of form.

Leader: No work preceded Yours; / Your wisdom arranged it all.

Cong: Nothing was before or after Your will; / nothing was added to or omitted from what You desired.

Leader: Of all You desired, You forgot nothing; / You did not omit a single thing.

Cong: You ; / You did not create anything useless. did not omit or exceed

Leader: You praised Your creations Yourself – who shall degrade them? / No inadequacy can be found among them.

Cong: You began to make them with wisdom; / You completed them with insight and knowledge.

Leader: They are completely formed from beginning to end, / created with befitting truth, uprightness and goodness.

Cong: You preceded Your handiwork / with great compassion and kindness.

Leader: For Your compassion and kindness / have always been upon Your servants.

Cong: And before You even created living beings, You created their sustenance; / before there was one who consumes, You provided nourishment.

Leader: You prepare food for all mouths; / You satisfy the needs of everything according to each being.

Cong: During the first three days of creation / You prepared all the needs of those who were to be created.

Leader: You then robed Yourself in light like a garment, / the splendor of the luminaries opposite Your garment.

Cong: You were very great before any creature existed; / and after creation You became greater still.

Leader: Before garments existed, He donned splendor and honor; / before weavers came to be, He donned majesty.

Cong: Like a robe or a cloak He dons light; / He spreads out the skies like a tent.

Leader: You created pathways for the luminaries, / and they move back and forth pleasantly.

Cong: You separated water from water / when You stretched out the firmament of the sky.

Leader: You created both nourishment and habitat for the swarming creatures of the water, / and birds that fly in the sky.

Cong: The earth became clothed herbage and grass; / nourishment for wild animals and cattle. with

Leader: You planted a garden in a lush corner / for the man You created.

Cong: You made for him a helpmate, / thus fulfilling all that he lacked.

Leader: You handed him domination over all Your creatures; / You placed him above all of them.

Cong: From them to offer up cattle and sheep / which were to be accepted by You on Your altar.

Leader: You made a cloak [of light] to serve You; / thereby granting him holy glory and majesty. for him

Cong: You placed the wisdom of God inside him, / for You created him for Yourself in the image of God.

Leader: You did not omit from the face of the earth any of man’s needs; / all were created with wisdom.

Cong: Your works have greatly increased and proliferated; / Your name, Lord, all shall praise.

Leader: Your works have greatly increased and proliferated; Lord, all Your creatures shall thank You.

Cong: You created everything for Your own sake; / all You formed was for Your glory.

Leader: Long ago, You rested on the seventh day; / therefore, You blessed the Sabbath day.

Cong: Praise is set forth for Your creation entire; / Your devoted ones shall bless You at all times.

Leader: Blessed is the Lord, Creator of all, / the living God, eternal King.

Cong: For always upon Your servants / is Your great compassion and kindness.

Leader: In Egypt You began / to make it known that You are exalted .

Cong: bove all gods, by working / great acts of judgment upon them and their gods A .

Leader: When You split the Sea of Reeds, Your nation saw / Your great hand and they were awed.

Cong: You led Your nation so as to create for Yourself / a glorious name, displaying Your greatness.

Leader: And You spoke to them from the heavens [at Mount Sinai]; / the clouds dropped water.

Cong: You knew their wanderings in the desert, / in a parched land not traversed by any man.

Leader: You gave Your people grain from heaven, / meat as plentiful as dust, and water from the rock.

Cong: You banished many nations and peoples, / that Israel might inherit their land and the toil of nations.

Leader: That they might safeguard the laws and teachings; / the Lord’s utterances are all holy.

Cong: They luxuriated in fat pastures, / with streams of oil from flint rock.

Leader: When they found rest, they built up Your holy city / and glorified Your holy Temple.

Cong: And You said: I shall dwell here for evermore, / I will surely bless its livelihood.

Leader: For there, they shall offer up righteous offerings; / Your priests shall also be clothed in righteousness.

Cong: And the house of Levi shall chant pleasant songs; / they shall ring out cries of joy and sing to You.

Leader: The house of Israel and those who fear the Lord / shall glorify and offer thanks to Your name, O Lord.

Cong: You dealt very kindly with the ancients of our nation; / deal kindly also with their descendants.

Leader: O Lord, please rejoice over us / just as You rejoiced over our ancestors.

Cong: Do good for us and let us multiply, / and for this we shall forever thank You.

Leader: O Lord, build Your city speedily, / for it carries Your name.

Cong: Raise up a ruler from the house of David in Your city; / O Lord, dwell in it forever.

Leader: There, we shall offer up righteous offerings; / our meal-offerings shall be as pleasing to You as in days of old.

Cong: Bless Your people with the light of Your countenance, / for we desire to perform Your will.

Leader: May it be Your will to fulfill our desire; / please, look upon us, for we are Your nation!

Cong: You have chosen us to be Your treasured nation; / Your blessing is upon Your people, Selah!

Leader: And we shall always recount Your praise / and laud Your glorious name.

Cong: May Your nation be blessed from Your own blessing, / for all whom You bless shall be blessed.

Leader: As for me, I shall praise my Creator as long as I ; / I shall bless Him all the days I am allotted in this world. exist

Cong: Blessed is the name of the Lord forever, / from eternity to eternity.

As it is written: Blessed is the Lord, God of Israel, from this world to eternity. Mourner: יִתְגַּדַּל Magnified and sanctified may His great name be, in the world He created by His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and in your days, and in the lifetime of all the house of Israel, swiftly and soon – and say: Amen.

All: May His great name be blessed for ever and all time.

Mourner: Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, raised and honored, uplifted and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, above and beyond any blessing, song, praise and consolation uttered in the world – and say: Amen.

May there be great peace from heaven, and life for us and all Israel – and say: Amen.
